First day on SBD and I already feel like a failure.
O.k. So I really did try to stay on this diet, even for a day.
This afternoon, I wasn't feeling so hot. Had a headache and the shakes. I ended up getting sick a few hours after trying the sugar free jello snack. This always happens to me when I try anything with artificial sweetener. I'm not sure if I am allergic or intolerant of the chemicals (if there is such a thing)
So, this evening, I had to have something to eat, and since my stomach still isn't feeling right, I had dry toast.
so now I need to know, do I start again on day one, or can tomorrow be day 2?
I always feel like these diets set me up for failure in one way or another.
I wouldn't worry about counting the days on phase 1 as much as getting rid of the cravings. First, don't let yourself get hungry so you get the shakes, headache etc. Keep something in your tummy..beans, nuts, roll up some turkey with peppers or another vegetable inside of it etc. You might still feel slightly crummy, but keeping your tummy full will really help. If you want something sweet, try a little all natural peanut butter with some lite coolwhip in a spoon.
I just went to go look at my box of no sugar added fudgsicles to see if they have artifical sweetener in them, but the box is gone. this recipe is delicious and if you can tolerate it, will help with wanting sweets.
Don't beat yourself up over a piece of toast. You won't keel over and die from it and once your body gets use to eating this way, you are going to feel so good you won't believe it. Most of us here have "failed" on other "diets" and honestly, they failed us. Just give it a few more days and it will be well worth it on how you are going to feel inside and out.
Most have bad days on Ph 1, but it is the first step so that you can rid your body of the sugar craving. Make sure that you one eat enough remember there really is no limits on foods, second make sure that you add some beans/legumes they will help to keep you feeling full and help with the shaky feeling as well. As for the artificial sweetener if it affects you like that then don't eat anything with it. I personally don't do jello, I am not a big fan of it. Take care and keep trying. I think once you get going and see the weight loss you will be happy with this WOE, and most of us have had bad days on ph1 normally it is later in the week not the first day.
Don't give up! Phase I is tough, but it is so worth it, and it makes the rest of it very easy. If it makes you feel better, I cheated my very first day - I wanted something sweet so badly, and I ate a tootsie roll that night. But I kept going and was able to do the rest of Phase I clean and was so glad to get rid of those cravings. You will learn what you can tolerate and what you can't, and after you get through the first few days of feeling icky and out of sorts ("detox"), you will feel great - mentally and physically!

Don't give up! You can do it! If I can do it, so can YOU! Trust us!
P1 wasn't as hard for me as it seems to be for everyone else. I guess it's because I didn't have a choice. I was put on this diet by my neurosurgeon. Facing back surgery in less than 5 years if I don't loose the weight, or in 10+ years if I do loose it. The choice was made for me.
I do understand the P1 "Flu" though. I went through it, I think everyone does. One thing that helped me, is I went through the house, and got rid of everything that I wasn't supposed to have. I hate wasting food, but I threw out so many things... Then I replaced the 'bad' stuff with P2 things. That way if I did cheat, at least it was with something I could have later. For example. Out went the white bread, and in came the whole wheat. I remember I wanted a sandwich so bad one day, that I gave into the craving, and had a 1/2 turkey sandwich on ww. I knew it wasn't allowed, but I didn't feel so guilty about the bread.
For me, getting through P1 was a lot of mind games with myself. I don't think it's the best way to get through, but it worked for me. I've been on the beach for 6 weeks now, and have lost 33 lbs. so I must be doing something right.
Hang in there - You can do it! We're all pulling for you!
After I posted yesterday, I logged off and went to bed, since I still had the headache that would not quit. I don't think I have slept so much in one day as I did yesterday (I am a teacher and am on the last days of vacation.)
I woke up today feeling better than I did yesterday! I had a few eggs for breakfast, along with some milk, and I actually feel full. Even without my daily muffin that I have grown to love over the years.
Now, my next question is, can I have wendy's chili during phase 1? I always feel full with a meal like chili. I think part of the problem yesterday was that I had a salad for lunch and still felt hungry. Salads rarely make me feel full.
Oh, and thanks for the responses! This is my first post on the board, and I have learned quickly that the people here are great! Thanks again!
Whew! It sounds like today is a much better day for you. Hanging out in here is one of the best diet aids possible so ask questions and be sure to join us on the Daily Chat.
Wendy's Chili is OK, I think. (Somebody yell at me if I'm wrong.) I am about to make a batch of my own chili using lean ground chicken. Shall I pass you some?

cmajor and Ruth,
I'm also having chili for dinner - I got smart and pulled it out of the freezer. Lean ground beef, home grown chunky tomatoes, and lots of garlic and green peppers. YUMMY! I've got the lt. sour cream at home, just have to pick up some lite cheese, and I'm good to go. I'm going to miss the tortillas or corn bread, but hey - I'll survive
cmajor, if you only had a salad for lunch yesterday you probably did not have enough to eat. The Wendys Chilli is fine you could have that and a salad. Glad you are feeling better today.
welcome cmajor!
glad you're feeling better. i have to say, i am impressed that your body is smart enough to reject those weird artificial sweeteners. They are one aspect of SBeach that I don't love.
as for feeling full, i would echo all the other ladies. keep at it, and keep posting!! it's so helpful!!

How's it going now, CMajor? It's a tough adjustment, especially if you had a carb-laden diet before, but I tend to think the harder it is, the more necessary it is that you detox from that sugar, because it has a HUGE hold on you, you know? Hope it's going much better!
cmajor,
First of all, from one teacher to another,
I also can't (and won't) do the artificial sweeteners. They also make me feel like crud and I think they actually increase my cravings.
I'm so glad to hear that you had a better day today. Remember, a life style change is important for your health and even if it takes babysteps to get there... you CAN do it.
You have to eat though. It was one of the hardest things for me to get through my head. Eat to lose.. If I'm full of "good stuff" it makes it a whole lot easier in the beginning. Once you start losing.... it just makes it all worthwhile.
I had the SBFlu pretty badly but by day 5 I felt better than I had in a long time.
