Default Star Jones

Anybody seen the recent pix of Star Jones? Apparently she had gastric bypass and has lost 160 lbs over the last three years. I'm not a fan of the surgery option, but good for her. Here's the thing, I'm sure she feels great and her health is probably much better, but I think she looks awful. She didn't lose it too fast if she did only about 50 lbs/yr, but she looks so drawn and stringy. Is it just because I'm used to seeing her heavy? I wonder because that's one of my fears, that I'll lose 100 lbs, and find out that I'm really a hideous thin person (not that I think I'm a gorgeous fat person). Fortunately, I won't have papparazzi chasing me around town trying to catch me in an unflattering pose. But I hate that deflated look people have after losing a lot of weight. Do you think it's temporary?

She actually said that she had the surgery a few years ago, and from what I've seen she's looked like this for a while now. Maybe she has lots of extra skin that hasn't been removed and that's contributing to her look now, I'm not sure. I wouldn't worry about being a hideous thin person though because no matter what you look like when you lose weight, at least you'll be healthier.

Well, I think if you exercise a lot, it will certainly help when you lose a lot of weight. At least I hope so.
Slightly off topic re: Star Jones - It drives me crazy that people are bashing her for not talking about her weight loss surgery. That's personal, her business and I think the criticisms are unfair. Don't get me wrong - I am not a Star Jones fan. But she has the right, like we all do, to deline to discuss her weight and weight loss. I only talk about my weight here!!!! lol.

I hear you Ginger, totally her own business. I'm not a fan either, but I read the article because of the pix - I was wondering how fast she lost it. But there was a discussion in there about how she was trying to "hide" the surgery. The comment went something like this "like we would believe that she lost all that weight by diet and exercise only!" I had to laugh because first of all, none of your damn business unless she decides to make it so, and second, if losing 160 lbs in three years is not possible by diet and exercise, what the heck am I doing here? I think there are lots of people on this forum that could show otherwise.

Default Star Jones

Hi All,

I agree Star did a good job but it does rattle me that she is such a drama queen about the whole thing. She loves attention when she wants it and then get ticked when media intrusive. At any rate, she is healthier and that is the important thing. She doesn't look that great but maybe we just need to get used to the lesser Star.

She will probaly end up writing a book about it and making tons of money. Ah the ecelebrity life!

Good luck to the rest of us struggling with these weight issues.

You know Schmoodle, I have to agree with you - I think she's too thin. Maybe I'm used to seeing her with a figure and curves - but I don't think she looks good at all.

And it does bother me that people are calling her out about not talking about the surg. Who has the right to know besides her family and close friends? Just because she's famous doesn't mean that she's an open book.

I had gastric bypass last year (actually from the same practice she did) So far I have Lost almost 70 lbs The gaunt/stringy look happens in everyone to varying degrees because there are periods where you skin has not caught up to your fat loss and you can look kind of alien. My sis had hers long before I had mine and hid it from everyone until she was thin. I didn't have the choice but to tell everyone.
A lot of people judge people who have the surgery as "Taking the easy way" so I can understand to a degree why she didn't tell
I Will say surgery isn't the easy way at all it's a tool and involves more care and attention than you probably ever gave yourself (OR at least I GAve mE) before
Anyway Just my 2 cents

I think a lot of the comments that there's no way she could've lost all of the weight with diet and exercise are due to the fact that she lost 160 lbs pretty quickly. I don't think she lost the weight over the 3 years, from what I remember it was like all of the sudden she was so thin.

I do agree that just because she's in the public eye doesn't mean that she has to share the details of her weight loss, and good for her for making the decision to take charge of her weight. The only thing that kind of gets me is that why come out now years later? I don't know, to me it seems like she's looking for publicity now.

I completely agree w/ u Schmoodle. I have been contemplating surgery but have decided to try and lose 100+ lbs without it. Nothing wrong or right about surgery, just not right for me at this time. I read a really good thread the other day about whether to disclose the surgery to coworkers. Someone wrote a really good post - A few years after surgery, she had lost 100 lbs but still had a lot of weight she wanted to lose. Coworkers were bashing her on her results. This drives me insane. So I've been sympathetic to Star Jones about our right to privacy on weight issues!
Btw, my sister lost 100 lbs on weight watchers & exercise 10 years ago. She did this over several years. She looks fabulous!!!
Anyway, this is a good reminder to me. I need to step up the exercise to go with a (hopefully) big weight loss. I do think I will look better and I KNOW I will feel better.

By the way, I wasn't being critical of anyone who decides to have the surgery. I am a big coward about that stuff, so I would have to be pretty desperate to go that way, but for some people I'm sure it is the right decision. And definitely not an "easy" decision or process to go through. Also, I have a dear friend who had the surgery two years ago. She lost 20lbs right away and then no more, and then re-gained the 20. She went through so much and it was heartbreaking that it didn't work for her. I'm still not sure why it didn't work. I never have wanted to ask her the obvious question - how was she able to eat enough to maintain that weight?

As far as Star goes, obviously, she is a major diva, and since I haven't seen or heard much of her lately, I guess her career is hurting, so publicity is probably the motivation. Maybe they'll take her back on The View?

I was really surprised to see Star Jones hosting House Hunters on HGTV the other night. I wonder if she'll be a regular host on the show? Anyway, I've always liked her on The View, and this was the first time I've seen her since she left the show. I think she was much more attractive before she lost weight.

Ok, this sounds silly, but I think I know what the problem is...she just has a really big head and now that her body is little, her head looks like it is kind of out of proportion. And the long hair adds to it. I was watching her on House Hunters the other night too.

You're right, Cat, I think that's what made her look so "odd". Everything looked so out of proportion. She should consider another hairstyle.
