No aimee..South Beach is about "slow carbs" not carb counting or avoidance. The focus is on getting good complex and simple carbs from Vegetables, whole grains , legumes, and milk products.. We do avoid Processed grains, sugars like syrups, honeys, candy-- and starchy veggies like corn and white potatos.
Check out the Sticky section under the FAQ section for the Food list and if applicable the recommended allowances... There's also a sticky that discusses the differences between South Beach and Atkins/low carb diets.

hope this helps

Basically after phase 1 I eat carbs that are good for me. Whole wheat breads, crackers, popcorn, fruit, sweet potatoes, whole wheat pasta or multi-grain.

You just want to stay away from processed stuff that has no real food value and is loaded with sugar. Most healthy carbs are low in calories and high in essential fiber and protein. Healthy carbs also help your brain to function correctly and give you energy and stamina to exercise and function.

If you eat a carb and notice that it triggers cravings or makes you want to overeat then you should stay away from that food. Sometimes, not always, crackers, like triscuits eaten with a lowfat dip will make me tend to eat to many of them. Not always though. I just watch myself with it.

Aimeep!

Have you read the book? Though I don't think anyone should start a program without reading the book first, you HAVE to read the SBD book to understand the program and work it properly. If you can't afford a copy, check one out from the library. It's a fast read; at least half the book is recipes and menus.

When you're done, come here with questions and check out the Phase 1 and 2 lists in the FAQ...they are the latest updates; what's in the books is outdated.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

at two months in you should be eating 2-3 grains and 2-3 fruits per day as well as 2-3 servings of dairy (milk or yogurt) and at least 4 1/2 cups of veggies per day.

those are the keys... not the amount of carbs.
