Default Wiki Wiki Weekend - April 28 & 29

I haven't gone to bed yet because my 2yo keeps waking up. As a result, I'm still wide awake. Thought I'd go ahead and start the weekend post a little early.

I spent a good part of today reading Refuse to Choose! Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Live and Career of Your Dreams by Barbara Sher. In the process, I've begun to make peace with many things about myself that I knew were there but never recognized as being anything but frivolous. Among those many things is my tendency to stop and start projects seemingly sporadically. And although I putting labels on myself, it really is good to know that I'm not alone and that maybe, just maybe, I'm neither lazy not a procrastinator. I plan to spend some of the time I have tomorrow reading more and figuring out what to do about it...if anything at all.

Okay, yeah. That was deep and slightly random, but like I said, I haven't slept yet!! The weather should be great tomorrow. I just have to decide what to do and where to go. I need to get a mattress for the little one, so I may try to get that done. I'll definitely be doing my grocery shopping for the week.

I hope all of you have great plans for the weekend.

Gosh, Jet, that sounds like a book I should have read at your age! I am still pretty scattered and don't have that much time left to straighten out!

Whatever happened to sleeping in on the weekends? I think I've just got too much going on right now and it's affecting my zzzzzz. There was no need to wake at 5 this morning although I do have two loads of laundry done.

No gym this morning as they don't open until 9 on weekends but I will be on the treadmill for a while and plan to do raking at the church for cleanup morning IF it doesn't rain again. It's no fun raking wet leaves.

I am going to cook a western omelet for breakfast this morning. I need my protein in the morning. The rest of the day's food is sort of up in the air - maybe soup for lunch and salmon for dinner - lots of veggies and some dairy in there too, of course!

How's your weekend starting?

Beachbabe Schatzi has returned after being adrift at sea! ...

Deep indeed Jet! An excellent idea to "make peace" with yourself. Looks like you will be wise beyond your years--that stuff don't normally happen till ya hit yer 40s!

Ruth: Are you going to the Gym now??? how MARVY!

Let's see, my Dh got very ill and he is on the mend..and in the meantime, I took the national exam for my PMP "license" or whatever it is ... and I passed! my brain still hurts from yesterday but that means no more -- at least technical ones...now I can get back to the "outlander" series of luxurious leisure reading

Jet, that sounds like an interesting book. I have 2 jobs and both of them have to do with my interests, but both very different from each other..I spend 1/2 a day on each of them and it makes life a little more interesting. If one job is making me nuts, I can always look forward to the other one for a change.

We are just going to work in the gardens today, and I have some work to catch up on, but yesterday was so much fun.
As soon as I left school at 12:30, we were on the road. Had a great time. We got to see Grayson Capps and the show was great. The only disappointment is that we were too far away to see Van Morrison...by the time we left the Capps show, the Van Morrison area was packed with a sea of humanity. We were way over to the right of the stage in a huge crowd and as soon as Morrison started, some jerk next to us was yelling in his cell phone trying to find someone else in the same crowd "DO YOU SEE THE FLAG WITH THE THREE PIGS???" If he yelled that one more time, I was going to take his phone away and put it in his beer or some orifice. We ended up leaving and walking around instead cause we really couldn't hear much and could hear a lot better as we moved away from the crowd.
I got a few really good shots while I was there. I really like the one of the elderly couple in front of us as we were leaving.

Just click on the picture of me in the car to see them

I was a very good girl too...no beer, no wine and only ate boiled crawfish, had 3 bottles of water and an iced latte with splenda as my afternoon snack. Afterwards we drove out to the lakefront and met my daughter and her boyfriend at a restaurant and I was a good girl then and only had a big seafood salad. The dressing was so good..it was artichoke dressing. I've never had that before. Seems like they sauteed artichoke hearts, celery, onions and capers and kind of caramelized it, then took that and made a vinaigrette out of it. I bought a pint to bring home for Sunday dinner. We were exhausted when we got home...I felt so gross after a day of crawfish and no place to wash my hands and portapotties...gross. I didn't get to wash my hands till I got to the restaurant. I headed straight to the bathtub when I got home.

Instead of even trying to park the car near the fairgrounds for the fest (which is a 150 year old racetrack that has been rebuilt since the storm), we took a shuttle instead from City Park. The ride back was kind of strange. I guess it was mostly people from out of town on the bus. They were all laughing and partying and having a good time. The bus driver took a longer route back to the park and we went through a few destroyed neighborhoods. There were houses here and there that had been rebuilt and some under construction, but still tons that are sitting sad, empty and destroyed. You could have heard a pin drop in the bus when he hit the area.I guess this was the outoftowner's first look at what "it" did and it is kind of a shock going from so much fun into something that looks like a war zone.

jet - thanks so much for your post! I love that we can share a little bit of ourselves on here. I'm at a weird place right now. I'm 47 and my youngest son is getting ready to graduate high school next month. I've been a stay-at-home mom all these years, but with him starting college in the fall, I'm going to have to find a job and I'm scared to death! Anyway, the book you mentioned sounds really interesting, so thanks for that, too.

Ruth - is there a recipe for the Western Omelet? I'm going to have to peruse the Recipe section! Thanks!

Schatzi - CONGRATS on passing your exam! Now...what is a PMP license?!

femme - you have quite a gallery of pics! Thanks for sharing! My cousin (who lives in Champagne, IL) grew up in Luling, LA and goes to the Jazz Fest every year! Looks like a ton of fun! You should pat yourself on the back since you were able to resist all the tempting foods!! Good job!

Well, I hope I didn't make myself out to sound like too much of a dork! I'm really enjoying this board!

Hey all, crazy weekend here for me. I'm putting together my final graphic design portfolio for my second undergrad degree. With both degrees, I've been in college 9 years! Ack! It's hard to believe it will be over in a few short days. I guess when you're following your passion, time is irrelevant, right?

I think most of the weight I lost this month can be attributed to "stress" instead of "south beach."

When all is said and done, I'm looking forward to participating more in the forums here. Everyone have a great weekend!

Hi Chicks - hope everyone's having a good weekend. I'm waiting for the sun to come out and warm this little part of the beach up - it's cold & rainy! I've been able to go through DS's closet and see what he needs for the summer though - luckily not much! Up to DD's closet next after I finish this though. Just had an awesome lunch of broiled montreal chicken over baby spinach & tomatoes w/ a little shredded lf mozz and about a tbsp of ranch dressing....yummy.

Hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend!

Good Saturday evening, Chicks! I had a really good day doing a lot of goofing off. I did some shopping, went to the park and sat under a tree with my daybook and laptop to do some editing for the website I'm building, talked to a good friend, and got to do a few other things.

Have a great night!! Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 85! YAY!!!

Good Morning!

Every time I sat down to chat in here yesterday, I got called away, and it looks like it's going to happen now, again, too! We have Carley here, and she just woke up. Jake went to get her, so I'll be back later.
Have a wonderful sunny Sunday!

Sunshine sounds wonderful! It was dull, cold and rainy here yesterday and today is shaping up the same. I did get the raking done up at the Church but no work around here. My front bed will just have to wait until it dries up again!

The Girls both got furcuts yesterday and look just wonderful! I am going to take Hershey to visit Harry this morning, then to Church for the parish service at 11. It'll be a quick dash home to grab lunch and then Lucy and I head off to Kingston for her lesson. We won't be home until after four so the day is sort of shot - or "time-boxed" as my busy sister says! Tonight I plan to just relax with a movie and my feet up. The next month is going to be really busy and I need to stock up on extra energy!

I hope your weekend is going well.

Wow! (most) Everyone must be having nice weather and taking advantage of it. I know we sure did! Spent a good amount of time outside this afternoon. Probably would have stayed out longer if the girls would learn to listen to me! We have no fence, and they kept running over into the neighbors' yards...testing me and my patience.

Once we came inside I headed to the kitchen to cook for the week. I have Cheesy Salsa Burgers, Chicken & Spinach casserole, mixed up casserole, and jell-o in the fridge now. I'll make some Belgian waffles tonight. Now all I have to do is figure out what's for supper. That's always the worst/hardest part about spending so much time in the kitchen in one day.

Hope you're all doing well.
