Default Butter

I've gotten to be pretty good at avoiding butter even though I really like it. The one place that I haven't found a good substitute is on my veggies and I'm not really willing to just go without anything. I don't use a lot so I don't think its doing much damage but it would be nice to have alternatives.

So what do you use on steamed veggies?

I have a friend that puts molly mc butter on everything. I use the spray of I can't believe it is not butter on my toast. I can tell the difference between butter and the spray, but I would rather have the spray then Margerine.

I use freshly squeezed lemon or lime on steamed vegetables.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought about the lemon or lime juice before...that sounds pretty good. Of course the thing that pops into my head is...that would be good with butter!

My problem with things like the spray and Molly McButter is I dislike using artificial flavours. Not because of how they taste but because we are trying to eliminate artificial colours and flavours from our diet.

Like with sweets...we either have the real thing or go without...no splenda or aspartame.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Steamed veggies.. I love olive oil and balsamic vinegar on them. With garlic of course. Sometimes a little crushed pepper (black or red), sometimes sea salt.

I think a lot of people put butter on steamed veggies because compared to roasted or stir fried vegetables they lack flavor. Which is why a healthy dressing like above is my favorite.

Then again sometimes I just want to taste the vegetable and add nothing.

How about some garlic hummus or plain yogurt and fresh dill or parsley?
