Default Eating Well magazine

I recently came across the Eating Well cook book. All the receipes are Sonoma friendly. They have a magazine that I just just subscribed too. I bought the Sonoma book in Jan after reading your posts here. I love it. I've made alot of the receipes. My problem is control. I just can't seem to get my head round making the commitment. How do you do it? I have a great day and then it all goes horribly wrong

HELP ME! Save me from me!!!!

One Day at a Time!!

My mom is in AA so that was drilled into my head since I was a small child. But really...food is an addiction just like alcohol or drugs and it messes with the chemicals in your brain too! At what point do you slip during the day? If you can pinpoint the activity you're doing or the time of day then maybe you can change how you react to it. If a whole day is too much to think of at the beginning, take it one meal at a time!!

Good Luck

I usually start eating from mid afternoon on. Did you loose all you weight on the Sonoma diet?

My highest weight was around 200 and I got down to 154 through a combination of Weight Watchers and South Beach...that was about a year ago before I met my current boyfriend who's a really great cook

I started the Sonoma Diet on Thursday and have already lost 8.6 lbs. just by cutting out diet soda, drinking a ton of water and just following the guidelines. I feel 100% better already and I can't wait to move on to Wave 2!!

I agree with BostonGal, one day at a time. Actually, I started by saying, lets see how this goes the first 10 days, I can do 10 days of anything. So I am completely committed to doing this for at least 10 days, strictly according to the diet. Truthfully, the first day or two was harder to stick to - seeing those other foods around the house makes it difficult. But once I'd made it through day 1, then on day 2 it was more like - well I sure!!!! don't want to have to go through day 1 withdrawal again! So that's pretty well what I've been using - and after 2 or 3 days, it gets so much easier. You start to see those bad foods as "fillers" and junk instead of FOOD. I see my boyfriend eating junk and I just think - what a waste! Also, in my house it just isn't possible to get rid of all the junk, and I am way tempted after I get home from work in the afternoon, so I just halved up the cabinets, and I have foods in my half, and he has foods in his half. I don't even open his cabinets, that way I have no idea whats lurking in there! Another thing that works for me (I know this is getting to be a novel, but hopefully something in here will help you too) is that I make my food meal-specific, meaning if I make enough for 2 or 3 meals (like enough chicken for my tortilla wraps all week) then BEFORE i eat, I put the "leftovers" into a container in the fridge - so there is no temptation to clean my plate, and the leftovers, etc. Or if I'm super hungry when I get home, I might eat 2 Kashi crackers. Just enough so I can tell my belly to shut up and wait for dinner. I'm kind of taking this whole thing as a challenge - my belly is the evil alien attached to me, and I have to train it to GET IN LINE!!!
You can do it! Take tips from the book, and if you know 4 pm is your bad time, make sure you have something to do every day at 4 - I like to start cutting up veggies and thinking about making dinner, so I am busy, and just by smelling food, I don't feel as hungry anymore. That might not work for you, but keep trying!!! And keep talking on here, maybe you'll find something that will work for you!

thanks so much for your post - I am on day two and am having trouble with cravings (not so much sugar - but salt) and just being hungry - so I am happy to know that it gets better after the first few days!!... I also have a husband that can and does eat everything - so I like your idea about having a cupboard just for him that I don't even have to look at!!

Britmum - I have found that having some "legal" snacks around helps with the evening munchies!!

I do have to admit - I kind of have some really good motivation - I don't want to be a fat bride! It's really exciting to me to think I might be smaller than I've ever been in my life on my wedding day! I've got a long way to go, but I've got a year+ to do it! Yeah me!

Oh I am a terrible salt addict. I admit it. This is not something I have been able to give up yet but it is on my ever growing list of ways I need to improve. I gave up junk food, I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't have sex,(bummer), I exercise all the damn time and eat OP but I am not ready to part with the last two vices: Coffee and salt!!

Thank you for your replys. They are extremely helpful. My kids snack foods are hard for me to keep out of. I used to not like cookies but now that I make them at home and not buy them, I find that I have developed quite a taste for them!

I've decided that I would like to think of myself in Italy in fantastic clothes, and imagine that I would look horrendous stuffing my face while trying to look elegant at the same time. I guess fabulous people don't sneak their kids candy while they are watching Tom and Jerry!!
Sugar is my downfall. I will try the legal snack idea. But keep them in a secret cupboard so that I am not tempted every time I open the "snack" cupboard. Plus my husband tends to eat anything that is not nailed down!

Wrong-o! We are all fabulous! LOL!

I know several skinny people who eat horrible diets. My sister-in-law is skinny as a rail even after having had four kids. Her diet consists of spaghetti, salad, Oreos and chips. Some people are just blessed with a fast metabolism.

That's great motivation! every little bit helps right!

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant - that's what I am using for my motivation! - I figure I need to get in the habit of eating healthy, exercising regularly and if I can get rid of a few pounds before gaining baby pounds (hopefully) that would be great too!!

Good for you LindaT - in the grand scheme of things I certainly think coffee and salt are okay vices!!

Good luck skyootr! That is also a (long term) motivation for me - I'd like to know I'm eating "good" foods for the babe when I eventually do get pregnant.
