Weight loss

  • I have been thinking about this diet; I have been doing the mediterranean diet.
i have also been thinking of atkins.

Have you have success with this plan?
  • Well I've been doing the Med diet, which this is based on, for a long time and have had great success and rarely if ever felt deprived. Good food, weight loss, better medical tests, better hair, better skin... can't ask for much more?
  • My personal advice -- and this is only my own opinion, mind you -- is to NOT try Atkins and do try the Sonoma Diet. When I went on a low-carb diet, I felt terrible. It really messed up my intestinal system, for one thing. Sonoma is more balanced, because you are allowed healthy carbs -- whole grains -- right from the start. Any diet that excludes a whole food group is bound to fail, because that's just not life.
  • I've lost about 6 pounds since the end of December. I started Sonoma around Jan. 3 or so. My loss on Wave 1 was 3-4 pounds, which is very rapid for me; now I'm at about .5 to 1 pound a week. But I also lift weights, so I expect a slow scale loss.

Better than weight loss, I am losing inches. And I recently dropped another size. I see my dr. at the end of Feb. and believe my medical tests will be better. I feel better!! And like Linda said, the food is great and I rarely feel deprived.
  • I think I just might give this diet a try. I have been looking into what would be the best for me and I like the idea of not feeling deprived. Thanks for giving me some great information. I am going to surf through some more of this forum to see what other info I can find out. Thanks.
  • Day 3 for me & doing fine. Not hungry at all - which is a nice change.

Have my weigh in tomorrow night - so will posts results then.

    Bye
  • I have lost 5 pounds in the last three weeks, but more than that, I feel better, my skin looks healthier, I don't have the reflux that I did, and my hair has even gotten thicker and shinier.
  • Well cara, I'm going to be the devil's advocate here. There is no one diet that is the best for everyone. That is why there are so many diet's "out there." You have to find what works best for you. Low carbing is clearly not for a lot of people but it has been the best thing I ever did. However, I am not a fan of the Atkins diet because it tends to be too highly focused on quick weight loss and not on good nutrition. There are other low carb diets that are much more "balanced" as the others would say and if you think low carb is the right choice for you, you may want to look into them. If I had to recommend one low carb diet to everyone simply based on nutrition alone it would be The Four Corners diet. It used to be called The GO diet. Not one of the better known diets (for some interesting reasons) but based on such sound nutrition it is hard to find an argument against it. And yes, you can even eat limited amounts of grains if you wish.

Another good book is Living the Low Carb Life by Jonny Bowden. He's a somewhat well known nutritionist who reviews all the popular low carb and what I would call "low glycemic" diet plans out there (South Beach, Sugar Busters, Zone). BTW, Sonoma would fall in this category and if it had been out at the time, might have found it's way into Jonny's book. Best of luck to you as you try to find a plan you can live with.
  • I've only been on Sonoma for about a week and have lost 9 pounds. Most of it was water weight, and I will not continue to lose that quickly, but it still feels good. My first week was during my PMS time...and I did fine. It really does teach you to control your sugar cravings and enjoy wholesome foods. Good luck!
  • Had my weigh in last night (after day 4) and was down 3#. So was very happy with that.

    Good luck, everyone.
  • Its working for me
I started sonoma Jan. 3 and have lost 9 pounds. ITs a lot in 3 weeks, but I went from drinking 5 or 6 dr. peppers a day and having a dp and choc fudge brownie for breakfast to eating no sugar, lower fat and no white flour. I also just started a body cleanse system and it may be helping, but thats not why Im doing the cleanse. I want to get some of the toxins out of my intestines etc.... NOt only has the diet helped me to lose weight, but how to cook as well. I usually cant finish whats on my plate at dinner, so thats nice. I have fudged a little and eat wheat pretzels, no sugar jello and sugar free chocolate. ITs better than the real deal, but I know the artificial sugars are not good. The diet is definitely worth trying. Good luck in whatever you choose.
  • Hi everyone:

My total for Wave 1 was 3 lbs. I think maybe with already doing ww it was low since I was already eating/drinking pretty healthy. I was thinking of repeating Wave 1 starting tomorrow - your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Has anyone else done Wave 1 twice???

Congratulations on all your weight lossess! Keep up the good work.

    Bye for now.
  • Bandit, I think you're right about it being low because you were already eating well. I lost a lot on Wave 1, but it was mostly water, I'm sure, because I had been eating horribly up until I started. Most likely, if you go on to Wave 2, you'll just continue with a slow and steady weight loss, which is best anyway.

    Good luck!

  • Hello, everybody! I've been doing Sonoma since Jan. 1st and am still loving it. I lost 4 lbs. the first week, 2 lbs the 2nd, 1 lb the 3rd week, and a half pound each of the 4th and 5th week. I'm getting down to the "hard lard" as my friend calls it. I'm a WeightWatcher of 6 years and have been holding at my goal for about 5 1/2 years. However, I've always had this personal goal of about ten pounds less and I'm going to make it, thanks to Sonoma.
