Default oats or steel cut oats

Which is better? Or which do you like more?

I actually use both of them, for different things. For just eating in a bowl for breakfast, steel cuts are the hands down winner. For use in recipes like Shannycakes or other recipes where breadcrumbs or some other breadlike filler might be used, ground up regular oats work the best. IMHO of course.

I like the steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. The texture isn't mushy like regular oatmeal, which I don't really like.

Sorry didn't see this post until this morning.

I add Molly McButter or Butter Buds to get that buttery flavor, skim milk and sugar free torani syrup. The flavors I have used are Almond Roca, Caramel and English Toffee . All good. The consistency gets a bit thicker sitting in the fridge but you can add a big of water to the oats before you nuke them and give them a good stir to re-hydrate. Even re-heated, these are scads better IMHO than rolled oats or those horrid prepackaged flavored ones. And you get MORE for the calories!

Okay, you girls are making me want to try steel cut oats. I cannot stand mushy oatmeal. I make regular oatmeal (the instant type) with 1/2 or less of the water so that they're not soupy and mushy. I think I'll add steel cut oats to my shopping list.
