Smile got my official weight(have question too)

i went to the doctor wednesday and i started out at 383 2 months ago now down to 376. not a lot of progress but it is moving i hope to reach 20lbs gone by the end of next month. i hate dieting it is so hard especially when you have a hubby who like to eat junk food. ladies quick question do any of you have high blood pressure and if so after you lost weight were you able to come off of the meds. my nurse told me that i would be on this med for the rest of my life and i'm like even if i lose weight, she said yup even if you lose weight. that doesn't seem right to me, give me your takes on the subject.
thanks in advance

Hi Stacey!

I have several VERY THIN friends who are on blood pressure meds. Sometimes the heredity plays a HUGE role in the issue even if weight is NOT an issue. It may help to check out family history on this.

I started my wt. loss journey at 234 lbs. I was taking a total of 8 blood pressure pills per day with a blood pressure still of 250/150. (Certainly stroke level for most people). I am now at goal and take only 1/2 of a low dose blood pressure pill a day. I now run 110/70. I could probably do without the blood pressure pill at all now, but my Dr. wants to keep me on it for a while longer. I don't think that nurse can say with any certainty that you will always have to be on blood pressure medicine. Many people are able to come off the med's with weight loss alone.

I really think your nurse was talking out of turn. There is no possible way that she can say "you won't ever get off". Since she doesn't know if your blood pressure problems are hereditary or weight related you'll just have to wait and see when the weight comes off. Even though I haven't lost huge amounts, my blood pressure is more under control now than it was at my highest weight and my doctor always assures me that my numbers will be better the more weight I lose.

Stacey, what kind of "junk food" are you talking about? Do you mean fast food meals? Or do you mean snacky stuff? If it's fast food then my best suggestion is to research some of the places he likes to eat so that you know what choices are saner for you and your eating plan. Even Micky D's has nice grilled chicken options now. Their new Snack Wraps with the grilled chicken option are really good and they have some really nice salads as well. If the trouble is snacky stuff then my suggestion would be to get yourself some snacky stuff that you like and that is good for you. Kashi makes a number of cereals that are really satisfying eaten dry as a snack. Fruit is an obvious choice. Fat free, sugar free pudding and jello are good choices. Even Frito Lay puts out a "light" potato chip that's not bad in moderation. Just beware of portion control. It can be done. Honey and I have a snack every night while we're watching TV. I know others would say that's a bad habit that we should break, but I prefer to not josstle my life around too much and still be successful.

Hang in there.

Stacy -- When I started this journey my hubby snacked on a lot of foods that I didn't want to eat. Actually, even now he often eats foods that I am choosing not to eat at that time (he is a bigger late night snacker than me). It was important for me to make better choices, whether he was "with me" or not.

Having snacks late in the evening is something I still do. I have found lots of healthy things I really like: pineapple! yogurt with some fruit in it, a small pita with some peanut butter. Sometimes I have crackers, but I always measure them out in a small bowl and put the box away.
