I just joined today but I have been lurking for a month now. I find this site and this support group very helpful.
A little info about myself. I'm 24 years old and I'm from the Philippines. I started my diet three weeks ago. I'm eating very healthy food and I exercise almost everyday. And I never exceed 1200 calories. So far I have only lost 2 lbs. Thank goodness I wasn't discouraged by this.
Please excuse my grammatical/spelling errors. I might annoy the grammar/spelling ****s.
Welcome! I'm Fae... and don't worry about how your spelling or grammer looks... we can understand you just fine!
Good job! I must say, however, that you could actually stand to up your calories a bit. Eating too little calories actually has an adverse effect on dieting - your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to everything it can. I've been eating 1400-1600 calories a day, and having a pretty much steady loss of 1-2 lbs per week, which is pretty much on par for healthy loss. If you find yourself not hungry more, you can try adding some small foods that have higher calories and good fats, like nuts (I often have a handful of cashews when I find Im not hungry at the end of the day and my count is lower than I would want.)
If you have any questions about anything, we're all here for you!
Welcome!
Fae is right.
You can go to the website for the Women's Health Calculator.
Enter all the details truthfully, and you will get a close assessment. It will tell you how many calories you need to sustain your current weight, and you can adjust your exercise and calories from there.
What kind of plan are you following? We are glad to have you!
I thought 1200 is enough for me. I have been stuffing myself with fruits and vegetables. Actually, I just eat fish, fruits, vegetables, yogurt and some carbs like organic rice and bread. I drink milk once in a while. I get so full at the end of the day. Adding 200 calories will be okay, I guess. I will follow your advice, Fae, since I love cashews so much. Are almonds okay too?
I'm not following a specific plan. I am not good at following anything. I just try to eat healthy food and count calories. I have eliminated pork and beef from my diet. I also lessened carbs and completely eliminated sodas from my diet. :-)

All nuts are good.. you can look at the nutritional information for them and see how many calories in an an ounce of them. Adding only 200 calories is a pretty good start.. you don't want to go too high too fast . And who knows, it might help jump start your loss! (Especially on days that you exercise, ).
Good job on cutting out the carbonated beverages! I only drink soda now for special occasions, like parties and holidays and whatnot. I didn't even plan on cutting out soda entirely.. it just happened!
Remember, don't get frusterated.. a lot of this is trial and error, and there are a lot of ladies here who know so much, and are able to help you find what works for you!

Hey, I'm pretty much a noob, too. I've lurked for a long time and joined a time or two, but never stuck with it. My DH are in it together this time, so I think we'll be successfull. I do need some other women friends to help keep me motivated. Looking forward to the losing it all!
Let's do this, ladies, huh?
I'm gonna go check out the the women's health calculator now!
Might as well make this the new person thread! I've been lurking for awhile as well, and I feel incredibly motivated by all the fantastic people on this site.
A little about me: I'm in grad school which makes it very difficult to get the time to exercise. I generally do a decent job of it, but the last few weeks have been rough because of finals. Ugh. At my heaviest, about 5 years ago, I was 175, managed to lose 20 pounds but maintained around 160 for awhile, put on another 5 this summer, and am now down 19 from there, although I haven't been working out because of studying so I'm thinking maybe the weight loss is just my muscles atrophying, heh. 146 is also the lowest I've been able to get to for who knows how long, probably early on in high school, so I'm pretty psyched!
I'm going on a trip in January, and I'm hoping to get to 140 by then. I'd also finally be "normal" on the BMI scale!
So I'm happy to be here and to have you all for a support group, and I hope I'll be able to help out too.
sounding good, ladies. I'm glad we're all here!
i worked out Monday, really hard, and felt great today.Barely walking, but good and sore, you know? didn't weigh this morning, will weigh in tomorrow.
I really need to get a specific diet plan, with every meal, every day planned out. I have 3 boys, 4 and under, and if I don't plan meals, I either don't eat or I eat bad.
So, here's to tomorrow, another chance. I plan to "bring it" tomorrow after my chiro.
