Default The amazing shrinking waist.. wait, this can't be right!!

Ok, so my official weigh-in this morning was 191. Not surprising, since TOM is in a few days and I kind of overate late last night (expected, since work kept me about 9 hours without food, so I ate a lot of leftovers at like 12:30... wow I can't wait until black friday is over). So out of curiosity, I grab my measuring tape.

Ya'll know I got the You on a Diet book, and it recommends going by waist size. So on Monday I got my measuring tape, sucked in my belly, and measured 41 inches.

Today I get out my measuring tape, expecting to see about the same, and measure. It says? 38 inches.

No way. No way can this be right. I don't think it is humanly possible to lose 3 inches off of my waist in like 3 or 4 days. Boyfriend called, and since he was watching me measure myself the first time I asked him to confirm the fact that the first time it said 41. He said yes.

Guys, as far as I'm aware, my pants fit the same today as they did on monday. I know that my largest pair of pants, my size 18 work pants, fit the same (although I find it kind of odd that my 16s fall down on me, but my 18s stay the same, except the the fact that the pair that is cut wrong and used to hurt doesnt hurt anymore.) I haven't tried any of my 14s (the size I finally just got back into a few weeks ago.. 16 are too big for me, yay!), but I will today to see how they fit.

I just measured myself again a few minutes ago, just to make sure I didnt use the wrong end of the tape or something.. because that is something i would do . And nope, right end, still said 38 inches.

I'm really, really confused. Someone please help!

And of course, a happy and safe Thanksgiving to everyone!

Have you measured yourself previously? Did you measure yourself around the same time of day? Perhaps when you measured yourself on Monday you were bloated/retaining water?? Try to measure yourself again tomorrow and see what it says would be my advice.
As for the pants..I don't go by sizes anymore since each brand and stuff makes sizes different... My size 16 jeans are way to big for me and so I reach in the closet for my 14's and they don't fit because they are a different brand..and this brand's 14's are like 12's in other brands.. Wouldn't it be easier if women's clothes went more like men's sizing?

If that were the case, then society wouldn't be so geared to the "perfect" woman, and maybe there wouldn't as many self esteem issues amongst women. That would be awesome!!

Hey it would be great to lose a couple inches that fast...Congratulations! Once I was depressed because I hadn't lost a pound in a couple of weeks, only to try on the next size down in jeans and found they fit-so the scale does lie sometimes.
I absolutely agree on the differences in size. I'm in an 8 in some stuff, and I have a pair of size 12 shorts that are too tight to be comfortable. Go figure. Yet another reason to LOVE my Levi's stretch jeans.....While I'm still losing they have enough range to fit for a long time.

That's awesome that you saw 38! Isn't that great encouragement to dispell your disbelief and work harder to make that number permanent (until it goes down again, of course!)? I'd definitely think about the bloating possibility.... or maybe you measured in slightly different spots. But I sure do hope it's genuine!

As for judging by pant sizes... I agree, I wish we went by inches and not arbitrary numbers too! My fiance is a 32, and I know he'll be a 32 in any pair of pants out there, so it's easy to find stuff for him. Me, on the other hand, I'm usually very comfortable in 14's -- that's my standard size. However, I have one pair of 12s that I can wear, one pair of 14s I can't wear, and a pair of 16s that are really comfortable and don't fall off. (Funnily enough, the comfy 16s and the too-tight 14's are both Gap pants... so the different manufacturer excuse doesn't hold.) So who knows? I wouldn't go by the size -- I'd go by the way things fit today versus how they fit a week ago. Your judgment is best.
