Default He didn't have to wear a suit for the wedding

We were recently invited to a gay wedding for someone who works with my DH. I was all over him to wear a suit. He was not having any of that. I offered a compromise. I told him to ask the guy if he was wearing a tux and to verify how formal it would be.

I got an email stating that George is wearing a kilt. Richard hates ties and there is a drag nun as part of the wedding party. All they asked was that people not wear anything that would embarass their mothers. (Totally reasonable in my book).

Needless to say, he wore casual to the wedding.

It was a very lovely and fun day!

That is very cool. I love it when events are structured so that everyone can truly enjoy themselves.

I will be wearing a tux to my son's wedding in 3 weeks ~ much rather be in my shorts and t-shirt ~ but something tells me I will still have a GRAND time!

This is gonna be a dumb question because I'm so out of touch but is it legal where you're from or is it a civil partnership or just an expression of love between the couple?

I think it's gorgeous that their wedding day was meant to reflect who they are as people and not to comform to some standard. Brilliant!

My husband wears a suit to work every day. And I still get turned on watching him do up his tie!

She's in the bay area, so the couple would have the option of a domestic partnership in the state.

Lots of people have ceremonies to recognize their commitment to eachother to acknowledge the signing of the DP paperwork - in fact, I am having one of those in April 2007 with my partner of 6 years.

Yep. It is the DP thing.

Congrats to you! Will you be able to file joint tax returns and the like?

I think it's terrible when someone has spent a lot of years together and they aren't allowed to sign medical forms etc.

Joint state taxes, but not joint federal, as it isn't acknowledged at the federal level. So anything that CA state gives as a right of marriage, we can have, but anything that the US does we can't.

At least we have the DP option available - it cuts down on a LOT of legal hoops to jump through. And our officiant is actually also a notary, so we're going to be able to sign the paperwork during the ceremony, which is kind of neat.
