I have been faithfully reading about all your successes & obstacles for a few months now. I thought it about time that I come forwards & post. I feel that I've gotten acquainted with many of you since I read almost daily. Its great that you support each other so well.
I am 52 years old & live near Indianapolis,IN with my DH. My children are all adults(mostly) & live on their own. I have been overweight since having kids-about 32 years...Mainly I just love good food & also enjoy baking..I come from a long line of down home cooks...great food but not too healthy...In January 06 my knees began hurting so I bought a book on avoiding knee surgery & the #1 reccommendation was to lose weight to avoid injuring my knee further..So it began..Since then I started by eating low cal & low fat for about 3 months, then slowly began walking..In May I began working out at a fitness center..I currently walk 1 hour daily & do weights 3 times a week..
I have since discovered that reading these posts are also a major part in my weight loss journey & I look forward to it daily....Hope that's not too much info...Hope to hear from you all soon...Vicki
Hello from one Vicki to another. 60 pounds in three months - that's amazing!!! Have your knees improved, becuase I also have terrible problems with my knees, no doubt caused by all this extra weight I'm lugging around.
Well I'm glad you finally posted and hope to hear from you soon. 60 pounds in three months - that's amazing!!! (I know I already said that but I thought it necessary to say it again because it's incredible!)
Hi everyone...Yes my knee's are getting much better...they only ache now after I walk on the treadmill too long-normally 1 hour 5 times a week,,need to rest them sometimes..dont want to injure myself cause it takes too long to heal..I started on my weight loss program in January so its been 10 months to lose this weight...but time passes whether we do anything or not..Thanks for wht warm welcome...Vicki
What an inspiration you are! Thank you for sharing your story! I need to lose about 60 pounds and I'm doing it primarily by walking. It's good to know that it can be done.
I can relate to losing weight for the health of your knees. My mom has been overweight her entire life and has just went through her second knee replacement surgery. I am determined to never have to do the same thing, or at least to never have to go through it because my weight damaged my joints.
Wishing more health & happiness! Welcome to the boards!
