Unhappy been there, done that and back again!

As far back as I can remember, I have been over weight. I was always the tubby grand-child, the tubby friend, the tubby everything.
When i went to college, I decided to drop the weight and went on a gruelling exercise regime...basically I exercised in all my spare time. At my heaviest, I weighed 80kgs (176lbs)...I dropped to 50kgs (118lbs) but in the past 8 years have gained most of it back
I am 32 years old and when I stood on my scale early this year, I weighed in at 73 kgs (160.6lbs) I went onto Atkins and dropped a few pounds but couldn't sustain it as I am not a very avid meat/fat eater.
I started the South Beach diet on the 9th of October and lost 4.4 pounds (2 kilos) in the 1st week! But then we had one of our biggest festivals in India (Diwali) Diwali is like Christmas for Indians...marks the start of the new year... and I went absolutely crazy with sweets, potatoes, rice, bread....sigh...you name it
I deserve to have put on the kilo that I have....and am now feeling horrible.
I am going on a vacation to Shanghai for 5 days this friday...and all i can think about is the amount of weight I am going to gain
I really want to lose at least 22 pounds before I leave for Christmas break (12 december)...but I'm begining to get disheartened...
I am sabotaging my own progress ...
i need help!!

Anybody out there who'll help a hopeless case???

You're not hopeless! If you are, I am, and I refuse to accept that label! Your story sounds a lot like mine. Atkins and South Beach and former success...

I've found that I can't do the carb-limiting diets. They make me sick. And the weight comes right back on.

And I too want to lose some serious weight before the holidays so I don't add EXTRA pounds to the ones that already need to be shed. Yuck.

I had an epiphany last night that I know what to do, its a matter of actually DOING it. That's the hard part. Sigh.

We can do this. We just gotta DO!

Hey!
Share the epiphany!! I wake up every morning and touch my tummy to check if God has granted my wish of getting fit! Needless to say I encounter only my radial tyres of fat!
I started today or rather I will start today. I plan on doing the south beach for the 3 days that I'm here ...go on my vacation, eat whatever my lil' heart desires and the come back and re-start in ernest. Thats the only way it will work I assume.
I don't want to ruin the vacation that my boyfriend's planned by minging on what I can and cannot eat. I want to enjoy myself and enjoy our time together - not worry about what I'm eating. I am sure I will gain a couple pounds... but if thats what it takes to be happy on my vacation - so be it.
But from today and when I'm back, I have decided that this will be my workout regime:
60 minutes of cardio every alternate day. Must burn at least 400 cals/session
30 minutes of cardio on other days. Must burn atleast 200 cals + an hour of strength training on these days. Sundays rest.
Eat right.
I am presuming that if I keep this up, I'll drop some weight and get closer to my mini goal.
