Theoretically speaking, if you eat something every day, and then take it out and DON'T add anything, then you will be eating less calories and therefore, you will lose some weight. I can't imagine that you're eating so much rice it will make a large difference, though.
Some people would argue that your body needs variety, and so by not eating something EVERY DAY, it's more likely to be kept in a state of "guessin." And, it just plain makes eating more enjoyable.
Also, rice itself doesn't make you fat....no food has the ability to do that. The only way a food will make you fat is if it's contributing to your overconsumption of calories!
