Wink anyone else NEED to have a busy schedule?

ok, so I just got a promotion at work and no longer do I work the 6 a.m. - 2 p.m shift!!! also - no longer am I in the shipping/receiving/data entry lab.

I've finally changed things at work...I looked for a different position at work for many reasons - of course to get ahead in the company, make more money, and do something that I really feel is more worthwhile to me concerning my education and background, etc...etc...and I recently moved into the Desktop Publishing department at my job.

Thing is, honestly - another HUGE reason for me moving was the schedule. I DESPISE mornings - and coming in at 6 a.m. and leaving at 2 p.m. - honestly - i hated this schedule for many selfish - lifestyle related reasons.

one of my BIGGEST reasons is - eating schedule - i'd eat breakfast at 5:30 a.m. then my old department we'd get 2, 20 minute breaks. one at 9 a.m. and one at noon. thing is - when i'd go to "breakfast" at 9 a.m. - i'd be starving because i hadn't eaten since 5:30 a.m. and they serve FRIED foods (eggs, bacon, sausage, tater tots, doughnuts, BROWNIES - yes, brownies at 9 a.m.)

then at noon i'd go and eat whatever they had (this is whenever i didn't bring my lunches) - so at lunch i'd sometimes have pizza or a calzone or whatever "gourmet feast" they were serving in the lunch line.
yeah - let's just say i totalllllllllllllllly have been off plan for a long time.
and also - the fact that in my old dept - there's over 50 workers...it's a huge dept - so when i'd go to eat with my friends - i would always get what they got. brownies, pizza, etc..

THEN - from there - getting home at 2 p.m. - for me - i really have nothing else going on outside of work - other than taekwondo at 5:30 or 6:30 p.m. (depending on the day) - but i'd get home at 2 - eat some MORE usually then i'd take a "nap" and most times end up not going to to taekwondo and i'd sleep away my afternoons because i had NOTHING to do and all that "free time" after 2 p.m.

so - with my new position in this new department, i'm FINALLY working a "normal" 8 - 5 schedule. i still eat my lunch in the cafeteria at noon - but i've been able to bring my HEALTHY lunch from home all last week and all this week & I don't feel the need to eat all that unhealthy crap - and I still see and talk to my old co-workers/friends during the 20 minutes they're out there for - i get an hour. but, because i'm at my OWN desk with my OWN cubicle (which i LOVE LOVE LOVE having my own cubicle...) and i'm not in a shipping/receiving area - i finally feel like i'm 'on my own' at work - plus, my department has only 7 people instead of 50!! i finally feel like an individual again - and that's a huge thing for me.

also - now - eating breakfast at 7:30 a.m. - i'm able to wait all morning until NOON to eat my first and only lunch - nstead of eating at 9 a.m. & again at noon - then i have a SMALL snack around 3 - get off at 5 p.m. and then i can go straight to taekwondo or to the gym

whereas - before, the biggest reason i hated getting off at 2 p.m. - it honestly gave me too much "freedom" to NOT end up going to the gym or to my taekwondo classes and i'd end up sleeping all day long...(and it didn't help that i was depressed over not having any $$ - this promotion gave me a $4 / hr jump)

also - i'm a night-time exerciser and - by the normal time i USED to workout at - 7/8 p.m. - i've already been home for over 6 hours and i'd get lazy - wheras getting off at 5 p.m. i can go straight to working out - get home around 7 or 8 - eat dinner and go to sleep -

this "REAL" schedule only gives me certain times of the day when i "get time" to eat.

seriously - i'm the type that i HAVE to have MANY things going on the the "right" 8 - 5 schedule in order to really feel right and also in able to follow my diet, eat right, and exercise.

i guess i'm just sooo happy that i'm finally able to feel like life is going right again. for the past year and a half - as much as i liked my other position - it REALLY screwed up my exercise and eating - and i got lazy and it didn't feel right at all - and in turn, i've gained 20 pounds back. :-(

BUT now that i can #1 eat on the right schedule again - #2 have enough $$ to buy healthy food #3 go back to my 24 hour gym...
things are just FINALLY back to "normal" for me.

PLUS - i'm on the weight watchers plan and i'm starting meetings back up here in the next week too.

i just had to share my little story and ask if anyone else understands what i'm saying.

It does sound like things are working out a lot better for you now. Congratulations on the promotion!

Personally, I wouldn't mind if my schedule weren't quite so busy

Congrats on the promotion! Sometimes to change ourselves, we have to change other aspects of our life that is hindering our lifestyle change. Good for you for realizing your work schedule was doing that and changing it!

First: Congratulations to your promotion!!

For me, a busy schedule is very helpful. I am suffering from Depression and it gets worse for me when I have a lot of free time, donīt get up early...
I have a strict learning schedule at the moment, and it helps me a lot. I guess itīs not (or not only) the fact that you donīt have so much time to think of food or eat. Itīs more that I am feeling better. I am a bit proud of myself...Mmhhh, canīt exactly figure it out. Have to think of it again....

Indy, I'm so happy for you! Congratulations!!

Yes, I do understand. I'm a morning person, but I find if I stay up too late, I'm thinking, "There should be a couple more meals in my day here..."
I think we can change our natural schedules, but it's hard work! Working with "who we are" and our natural body rhythm just makes more sense.
