Default Blisters/Sores

Gross! I have blisters and sores all over my heels and feet. It was from a bad bad pair of shoes, but they won't heal... Any suggestions?!

(I know this is so gross)

I have them too. I get them where there is more pressure between certain spots on the foot and the shoe. You might want to try switching shoes every day. One day wear this pair for workout, the next day wear the other pair for the workout. Alternate, that was the word I was looking for.

To help with the blisters, clean your feet well, and put some neosporin on the painful areas. Bandage them up beofre you put the shoes back on. I would take the bandages off at night when you are not wearing shoes and let the feet air out.

I have a pair of running shoes that fit, but the material on the heel area gave me awful blisters. What I did was Neosporin; bandage the site; and put duct tape on my heels and over the bandaids before putting on my workout shoes. After the workout, I just pulled the tape off and let the areas air out for a few hours before putting another bandage on.

If you use duct tape, I reccomend getting the really wide kind. I found that it stayed on better than the regular-sized duct tape. The regular dt works, but it tends to bunch up easier than the wider kind when the sweating begins.

And trust me, duct tape doesn't hurt to take off even with painful blisters.

Eventually, I acquired some moleskin and hotglued it into my running shoes. That solved the problem for good. You can also apply it to unbroken skin or stick it in the shoe, but I never could get it to stay put!! You can find moleskin at your local drugstore in the footcare section.

Another thing to try is to experiment with different types of lacing. A "Lace Lock" will help keep your heel from rubbing against the shoe. http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm

I found that when my heels hurt, I would shift my feet forward in the shoe causing more blisters elsewhere. However if your shoe is snug or snugger, then it may make it more comfortable to have your heels in the correct position.

Anyhow, that is what has worked for me. YMMV.

I have always found moleskin to work fantastically - what a great idea to glue it to the shoe though! You really need to cut the pieces generously though for them to stick properly.

I personally didn't have success with the duct tape method - maybe I just sweat too much (eww!) but it wouldn't stay stuck.

Thanks for the wonderful advice! I tried the duct tape today, and worked better than just regular bandaids... THANKS!

I use the 2nd Skin dressing kit - the stuff cushions the blister, so you can still exercise with it on. I've gone running the day after getting blisters and not felt a thing with the 2nd Skin on. It helps the blister heal quickly, too.
