Default I'm Suddenly Always hungry

yeah that about sums it up. For the past week and half I've started getting hungry every hour and half - 2 hours. Like Starving hungry, growling stomach hungry.

I'm eating the same as always only I've split into 7 meals a day. Because my day can last up to 18 hours I try not to go 4 hours without a small amout of food. Is it because i split my calories into so many small meals? Should I shrink it to 4-5 meals and just go a bit longer between them?

I'm working out a half hour longer, that's the only change I've made so far that I can think could be the cause of it. It's just very anoying to be sitting in class with a grumbling tummy when I just ate a hour ago.

How many calories are you eating? What kinds of foods are you eating? How long are you exercising (30 minutes added to ???)? What types of exercise are you doing? Are you drinking plenty of water? Are you getting enough protein? healthy fats? fiber?

I'm eating about 1400-1600 calories. I eat mostly whole foods. lots of fruits and I've been cutting back on my carbs a bit. With the extra half hour to my work out, that takes me to 1 hour and 45 minutes with 1 hour being cardio. The other 45 minutes is weights.

I get enough water (Always running to the bathroom @_@) And I make sure to have a bit of protein in every meal. Fats are pretty good but I'm kinda low in fider.

It sounds like your calories may be a little too low for the amount of exercise you are doing.

Also, you say you are eating a "bit" of protein at each meal. Perhaps you need to increase the amount of lean protein you are eating - this will help keep you feeling full longer. I highly recommend psyllium husk powder as a fiber supplement (or Metamucil) if you think you need it. It's also very filling as it expands in your stomach. I buy plain psyllium husk powder from Trader Joes and add a tablespoon to my daily protein shake. Be sure to drink plenty of water if you take a fiber supplement.

I agree with Penpal...if you're taking in an average of say 1500 calories a day and then burning a few hundred with all that exercise, then you're only leaving your body what, maybe 1100 calories a day to function? You don't have to increase drastically...try just bumping up by 50-100 calories for a week or 2 and see if that helps. It might be just enough to shake things up.

I think the many mini meals all day is a good thing--I wouldn't change that if you don't have to. Eating fewer times during the day probably will make you feel more hungry instead of less hungry. I do agree, though, that you might want to think about more protein (assuming you're not taking in enough). I know if I have a snack of just fruit, for example, I get hungry VERY soon after. Adding cottage cheese with fruit could help, or adding a few nuts or a nut butter (apple w/natural peanut butter, for example). I'm sure you already know much of this, but just in case...

BTW, you get major bonus points for actually answering all the questions I fired off at you So many people would have read all those questions and either skipped some, not answered them at all and continue to complain, or answered one or 2 while ignoring the rest. You rock!
