Unhappy i'm new & i need help!

Okay,
So i joined this community because i need help! I've been struggling with weight all my life and over the past few years have gone from 226 to 185. After i got to 185 the pounds just coming back and then i'd lose them and then they'd come back & i never went below 185 again. I went to the doctor for advice and she told me i was pretty, didnt look 187 and to just keep doing what i was doing. No help at all. So in May my boyfriend came home from the marines for good and ever since then i gained nearly 10 pounds! This because i feel like if he can have something so can i, which is obiviously not the case! The point of this post however is i have no idea how i should start and try to lose weight. I lost all my weight originally by counting caloires...1200 a day & mostly just lean cusines. I'm not quit sure how i should start now. I hate almost every vegatable but will eat fruits and i am pretty broke and very busy. So does anyone have any ideas on where i can start!? Please & Thank YOU!

<3 Alison

Hi Alison! Welcome! You're on the right track already. You know you want to get healthier.

What is working for both myself & my husband is counting calories. Our goal is 1500 calories in a day, no more. We can go under & we're ok with that but we don't want to go over. We eat LOTS of fruits, veggies, turkey products. I used to dislike allll kinds of veggies.. I dunno what it is now, but i crave veggies, spinach, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, you name it, I love it now! Try them.. see if your tastes have changed. Never would I have eaten green beans.. now I LOVE them!! Eat a ton of them!

We eat salads for lunch alot of the times. We eat egg substitues instead of real eggs.. Cuts about 40calories an egg. We don't eat candy, sugary stuff.. Drink TONS of water! OMG i can't tell you how much water I drink.

Check out the local farmer's market for fresh veggies.. Cheaper than at the grocery store & they taste soooo much better! I don't know what i'm gonna do when farmer's market ends.. I am loving all the fresh foods.

Exercise..now that's where we both lack.. I do more than dh does though. I walk on the treadmill, jog on the treadmill, dvd workouts (Crunch Pilates is my fav!) walk/jog outside. I need to increase my activity by a ton!

This may not work for you, but it has definitely worked for us. We don't really say dieting so much like we used to, now it's a lifestyle change.. a new way of eating.. something we'll do lifelong.

At the top of the screen..you'll see user CP, go there and then go to update signature..then you'll see where you're ticker is at in there and you can edit it as needed. Hope this made sense.

We've all started somewhere in our weight loss journey. It helps when your family is able to do it along with you. Our kids eat what we eat for the most part, but every now & then we know they aren't gonna eat what we're eating so we make them something different. For the most part, we eat what we want, just healthier versions of them. We use ground turkey instead of ground beef.. We eat turkey brats instead of beef brats.. small changes like that, add up to be alot in the end! And our kids eat them!

You'll see it'll make a big difference. Just keep at it!

I always focus on exercise and find that my eating falls into place after that. I enjoy going to the gym cause its really me time. But if you are busy sometimes its easier to sneak in a workout tape or a walk.

Get BF in on the action.. through eating good or exercising.. a supportive partner is SO huge!!

Alison - counting calories is my diet of choice as well. Fruits, Dairy, WW bread...all are pretty affordable. Lean Meats are a bit more expensive but way cheaper than going out to eat or even fast food. Talapia for instance is a great lean white fish that is like a dollar for two fillets...add some marinade and grill it and voila! Eating healthy does not mean having to spend a lot of money. Heck even lean cuisines aren't soo expensive. I think what will make the difference with you though hun is working out. It will give you more pride in your appearance, incredible self esteem. You wont want to waste your hard workout on a few measily treats. And your hubby being a marine it might even be something you can do together! Oh and definitely keep posting here...a support system can make all the difference in the world!
