Default How to carry stuff when running

I just started running today, using a couch to 5 K program. When I walk, I use a fanny pack like device to carry my keys, cell phone and some money. I live in an apartment building where if I leave with out my keys, I can't get back inside at all. The phone is for "just in case", and same with money ( extra waters, ect).

The problem is that this fanny pack thing doesn't tighten up to the point of being snug around my middle. It's more on my hips. I've even brought it to other people to see if maybe I couldn't adjust it properly. The tags on these things boast that the get up to 60 inches around, but I want the other end! What do you do to carry your stuff on a run? Pockets aren't going to work because stuff falls out. I want something that doesn't jiggle around

thank you
OG

Some of my pants have zip pockets. You can get arm band things for MP3 carriers that I sometimes put my phone in.

I bought a really cheap money belt (you know like you'd use if you were travelling in Thailand or something) it fits a phone, keys, bus pass (in case I run too far) and a bit of money. It lies flat, it's snug, and it was cheap, I wear it under my top.

My running shorts have deep pockets (unlike my relatives! hahaha!!) so I just carry my stuff in there. I put my iPod in my pocket, too.

This may not be big enough to carry your cell phone but it is big enough to carry the other stuff: Walmart carries a cheap $12 pedometer that is on a pouch. The gray zipped up oval pouch has a clip on the back (I wear it turned inside my clothes instead of outside in case it wants to fall out) and a pedometer on the outside. I use it for my money, ID, CC, and keys on a daily basis and my pedometer is always with me!

I just use a zip pocket at the back of my shorts for my keys and my ID. I don't carry anything else on short runs. (Actually, I do - my ipod shuffle round my neck) For long runs I have a hydration pack which has room for a phone, some gels/energy bars and some money.

In addition to the above suggestions, I've been known to slip something small and flat like a driver's license, a couple dollars, or a single key under the strap of my bra. I wouldn't do it for a real long run, but for anything under 6 miles it works pretty much just fine.

For reasons I don't understand, most of my workout clothes don't have pockets. Honestly, how much would it cost to add a small pocket with a zipper! It ought to be a requirement for all workout wear. So frustrating!

Due to this dearth of pockets, I made a tiny pouch that I can safety pin to the inside of my wasteband--I call it my "portable pocket". I cut a strip of material just over 1/2 inch wider than a credit card and about two inches taller. Then I folded it in half and sewed the sides together with quarter-inch seams. It exacty fits my ID or my gym membership card and either my house key or my car key. It's not fancy and it doesn't hold a lot, but it gets the job done. I safety pin it inside my waistband, which holds it in place.

I run with my ipod - and I have an armband thing for that and I run with my phone in my hand and use it as a timer, I guess its kind of a security blanket, I would feel like something was missing if I didn't have it.
and I run with my pedometer but that of course clips to my pants.
and thats all I run with. I don't run far enough where I will need money and I leave my keys at home with DH and DD

My boyfriend has a waist pack that has a little light for running at night, and a pouch for keys, mp3 and wallet/phone/etc. you can also get a camelback with water and that would also carry small stuff like phone and keys, or a small running sack.

Speaking of carrying stuff while running, does everyone carry an ID... I know I don't and I know deep down I should and wondered if I was the only one that didn't...

I have never thought of carrying an ID. I carry my cell phone so if something happens, then I guess they can call whoever on my cell.

I usually wear a RoadID anklestrap that has emergency contact info on it. It is a very good idea if something should happen. I know other people who have had dog tags engraved with the info and wear it in their shoelaces.

I love the dog tag idea Anne! It's something that I don't have to go looking for everytime I need to go running...
