Default Any Swimmers?

Due to a back injury from which I am trying to recover, swimming is about all I can do right now.

I know how to swim, but have never been a "swimmer".

I hear it's harder to lose weight (and I've now got 100lbs to lose).

Is that true?

I'm planning on swimming and taking "Aqua fitness" classes.

Any advice, tips, or just words of encouragement?

Thanks!

Thumbs up My vacation

I've been vacationing in Florida for the past 5 days and have been swimming and walking every day for my cardio and I brought some resistence bands with me for the strength training portion. I have been doing great. I love swimming. I want to start swimming once we get back to Michigan. I need to check out the community pool or the Y and see if I can get a day or two a week to swim. I have been doing 10 - 15 laps per day. That's big for me. Back stroke mostly, but I did do some free style and breast stroke. I also have been playing in the pool with my sons every day. It's actually helped me burn a nice amount of calories per day. Not as much as my elliptical, bike and treadmill, but not too shabby. I do miss my weight machine though. The bands aren't my favorite.

Good luck with the swimming aerobics. Sounds like fun.

I also do aerobic walking for my cardio but for the past couple months have been doing lots of water aerobics just on my own (no class). It is REALLY helping take off the inches and firming me up... as well as giving me tons of energy and feeling better.

I love to swim! I also have had problems with exercise, but because of tendonitis. I can still swim even if my hands are acting up. We have an outdoor pool for the summer and then I go to the Y in the winter. I try to go at least twice a week and I usually end up swimming laps for about half an hour and then I play with the kids for about an hour----pretty intense rough-housing.
