Unhappy Lap band procedure

Hey gang, I haven't posted in a long, long time. I am at the end of my rope, literally. I am 300 pounds and 5'2" and I am slowly eating myself to death. I have tried LOTS of diets, etc.

Does anyone here know of a doctor or institution that performs the lab band procedure for free, like a charity case or something or for a reduced rate.

My insurance will not pay for any of this to be done and I desperately need help, but cannot afford to pay the high costs for this surgery.

Thanks for any help at all, T

I'm sorry sweetie, I don't know of any programs like that.

You might want to call your doctor and find out if he or she knows of any clinical trials or programs. Have you thought about getting something prescribed from the doctor, rather than surgery? Maybe there is some other alternative that can be covered for you.

Teresa,
It does look like you are highly frustrated and want a solution to your weight issue. I think we have all been there. I just want to give you some encouragement to not give up. Your insurance may not cover it and I have never heard of getting WLS for free. You do have a few options.

1) Save up the money. I know it sounds like a lot of money and I don't know your finances but most people seem to be able to cut back expenses when they need to, even those on very limited budgets. A year will pass whether or not you save money for the surgery or not. Imagine in 5 or 6 years, having enough money to have the surgery.

2) I know you have tried and the problem may be that you have tried diets rather than changing your eating and exercise habits for life. Don't go on a diet which is unmaintainable for an extended period of time. Instead look at how you can change your every day eating to be healthier. I would start with counting how many calories you eat on a daily basis and find ways to reduce it. One of the biggest culprits is processed foods and excess fats and sugar. Also, try to get in some exercise every day. If it means just walking for 5 minutes, then building up to 10 minutes, then up to an hour.

There are many on this site that are ready to offer support and encouragement. People have lost 100, 200, 300 lbs and more without WLS and have been able to keep it off. I am closing in on the 100 mark myself so I know it can be done.
