hello everyone! I need help I have lost 10 pounds thats not the problem. the problem is that I cant control my late night hunger I eat salad but it doesn't work. I need something hardy anyone could recommend a diet suppressant that has work for someone HELP! HELP! HELP!
I wonder if it's possible your calorie intake for the day may not be enough and that is what is happening, why you are so hungry at night?
My first 2 weeks I was very hungry at night but I upped my calories about another 200 per day and now i don't have that prob. If I am hungry at night I eat an apple or 1 piece of bread with peanut butter. For me that helps. Sometimes I work out at night so after that I feel famished!!! An apple usually helps because it is a bit heavier than something like salad.
Please don't take appetite suppressants - they don't work in the long run. In order to lose weight and keep it off, we have to adopt a new lifestyle and way of eating, otherwise the weight will come right back.
Maybe you could post some details of what kind of plan you are on, what kinds of foods you are eating and how many calories you are consuming per day. It could be that your overall calories are too low for your body weight or that you are not eating enough protein.
I eat a late night snack every night because I take meds and I want a full stomach for that. SO I've spread my meals to 6 mini meals throughout the day. My late night snack doesn't go over my daily intake. It does have to be something a little more substantial like a piece of double fiber bread (toast). Too piddly and I will reach for something else. While you do have to go through a period where you learn to change habits, consider what kind of lifestyle you have and making your diet work for you. If binging still occurs at night, you will have to find some other way to break that habit.
The problem with appetite suppressants late at night is most of them contain caffeine...which would keep you up all night? Can you skip breakfast and or work it into your calorie allowance?
You may be hungry out of habit. Try drinking a sugar free hot chocolate or broth soup. And I also read that hungry does not stop you from sleeping, so you may be hungry for a little while, but I promise, it gets better.
I'm not going to recommend appetite suppressants, mainly because I know nothing about them, but also because I think if you want to work at it, you can eat in a way that helps better control cravings and your appetite.
You didn't give us much to go on, and there are a number of reasons why you're hungry at night. For example:
1) You are trying to survive on way too many calories. In which case addint a 200-300 calorie snack in the evening may do the trick
2) You aren't eating the right KINDS of foods to keep you full. Salads dont necessarily have a lot of protein, which can be VERY helpful in making you feel full. Do you add any good protein to salads? (chicken, fish, eggs?)
3) You front load all your calories early in the day and don't leave enough for late.
4) all of the above.
So I guess what I'm saying is if you learn more about how to eat to keep you satisfied you won't need an appetite suppressant and can learn good habits for life! But for anyone to give more advice, we'd need to know more about your specific situation... how much are you eating, when, and what kind of food for starters.
Thank you everyone for your support. I began counting calories and I do 1500 calories a day. The hardest for me is at night. I cant get that food off my mind once again thank you for your support.
Chela, I agree, salads are just not filling or satisfying for a late-night snack. I'll throw out several ideas for you to consider:
1. You can save 100-300 of your daily 1500 for the late-night snacking and have something you'll really enjoy.
2. Have some fruit for a snack. It's heavier than salad greens and the sugar in it is more satisfying.
3. Eating a solid breakfast, even if it doesn't make you feel fuller earlier in the day, often adds up to make you less hungry at night. I'm talking eggs and/or milk along with some oatmeal or cold cereal and maybe fruit.
4. Eating more fiber makes you feel fuller. This works for me, so I try to eat meals containing lots of vegetables and I get fruit in, too. I'm not as hungry at night when I've loaded up on produce at meals.
5. Eat some heavier veggies for a snack, such as fresh cauliflower and broccoli, peppers and baby carrots. Make a tasty dip from yogurt or nonfat sour cream and a low-fat mix.
6. Get up earlier untill you start going to bed earlier, so you're just not awake during those late-night hours.
7. If you do set aside calories for the snacking, consider having a cup of milk as part of the snack. It's supposed to be filling, and you need the calcium anyway. So maybe milk and a 100-calorie packet of Oreos. Or a Fudgsicle, which is made from skim milk.
8. Come to think of it, the 100-calorie bags of crackers, chips and cookies might work.
Re appetite suppressants, I'm not against them the way the others are. I don't find the over-the-counter ones to be effective for me, but they must work for some people. You can get your doctor to prescribe some, but they're not without risk -- and they may stop working for you after months, weeks or even days.
One that I do find works is the apple cider vinegar tablets. You take two before each meal. The effect may take several days to kick in. You can also drink 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in warm water (enough to make 1 cup) 2-6 times/day (more if you're heavier). Gag, but it works.
This is my first post, even though I have been reading these forums for years. I can see why you are hungry … 1500 calories is a little on the low side. It wouldn't hurt to increase to 1700-1800 calories every day, and to include more protein/fibre in your daily food.
From my experience, if you don't eat enough every day a couple of things might happen. You will slow down your metabolism (because your body will start to think it's starving and go into 'protection mode'), which will make it harder to lose weight over a long period of time.
You might also lose your motivation, or feel like this is 'too hard', and go back to old habits.
Do you exercise? Do you drink heaps of water? Do you get enough nutritious food in your diet? I know I'm asking lots of questions, but I really think you could eat a little more.
The women in these forums are really knowledgeable and supportive - and I'm sure they know much more than me. Good luck!

Perth...You are soo right! She might need a food boost (especially the healthy kind). Sometimes in the beginning it takes some hit and misses to learn what works for you. Dieting is such an individual thing.
I have had problems with late night hunger. So, now I always save a snack for the evening. Yogurt and fruit works great to fill me up before bedtime. Also some peanut butter with low-cal/ low-carb bread works great.
I ate well over 1500 cals/day when I was over 200 lbs. I didn't shoot for 1500/day until I was around 150 - 160 lbs. I count my late snacking into my day. I don't do a strict calorie count, but do keep track of my day's calories in my head to keep me realistic. And I know if I have room for late snacking or not. I've tried lots of things to cut out late snacking...they haven't worked. Sometimes I can drink a large cup of decaf green tea and it helps, but not always. I generally have oatmeal or Cocoa Wheats to satisfy both my late night hunger AND my sweet cravings. They're both very filling too, so I go to bed feeling satisfied.
I've been on so many yo-yo diets in the past that what I can tell you about supressants is...save your money. I've tried many diet pills and aids (Slimfast, Dexitrim among them), as well as certain vitamin combinations that I've read in mags that proclaim you can change your metabolism with them, etc. None of it has ever ever worked a lick for me. All that's worked is eating right and exercising religiously. And at this point, I'd love to have back all the money I've spent on all the failed trials from the past. I'd be quite wealthy.
I'm the same way at night. I just make sure to leave a few hundred calories for the night time. Warm fruit and a piece of whole grain toast is very filling.
Thank you everyone I have readed all your ideas and all of them are great, great ideas I never would of thought of some of them my self.specially the one that said to save some calories for late at night.
