Glad to have found you. On the 14th I am going away with my fiance andhis family. We go to a small camp there and my biggest issue is that we sit around a picnic table or in these little outdoor chairs. These chairs do not fit me so I always race to sit on the picnic table or race to sit on a bench but seating is limited and I always am worried about this. I was thinking it would be good to purchase an outdoor chair that would accomodate me so that I dont look like a fool or spend the whole time worrying about it.
Anyone know where you can get a chair like this that would be rated for someone around 340 lbs?
I posted in the chatter forum but basically you shouldn't have a weight issue with chairs but you might have a comfort issue. (I've personally never had an issue but I still don't completely trust those white plastic chairs).
I'd say go to a sporting good store where you can try out various camping style chairs and see what makes you comfortable. Most if not all should be able to handle well over 300 lbs.
Most say 225-250 lbs. I have found some online that say 300lbs and I would think I would be okay in those even though I am over the limit...just dont slam down into them maybe. Ah silly how much time and worry issues like these can consume.
I didn't have a problem with the larger folding chairs holding me at 328 and I've seen much larger people than me in them. However, I would caution you about putting too much weight on the arms when you get up. I haven't done it, but my DH bent one badly when he stood up and raised his weight up with his hands. Perhaps you could look into a wooden folding chair without arms, rather than a canvas camp chair, they might work better.
Sew, I bought some at WalMart that had a 250 lb limit and we've used them for several years, even at my high weight of 346. I also found these online, all with a weight capacity of over 300 lbs, two over 350. Good luck.
I have the one Tammy listed from REI and it is pretty good. I find it put a bit of pressure on the back of my legs when I was at my highest weight, but nothing an extra towel couldn't cure. I haven't sat in it for awhile, but at 350 lbs it always felt very sturdy.
Wow that one from basspro looks great especially for the money!!!
I think I might buy one of those and one from cabelas that is rated for 400lbs and is $60 (much more $$). Then this way I will have two to choose from and my fiance who is only 260lb can use the other.
You all are the best. I looked online forever hoping to find something and didnt!
My husband and I bought the canvas and black metal frame chairs from Walmart. I don't remember if they listed a weight requirement, but even at 394 they were sturdy enough. I tried them out in the store first, figuring I could tell if they weren't sturdy enough before I was in any danger of hurting myself or the chair.
Their new chairs that look the same, I think the label now has a rating of 300 lbs. I've found that almost all chairs with weight limits are good for another 75 lbs or more. They're not going to risk a lawsuit for someone a few pounds over the limit who will deny that is what they really weigh. Besides there is no chair that will be good one weight, and fall apart at a couple pounds more because the variables are how heavy you sit down, how old the chair is, whether you're putting alot of stress on the arms...
wow girls. This has been a great help to me too!! I have had really crappy luck with these chairs. I bought a couple this year from Sears that has a cap of 300lbs (the highest I have ever found) and they both have already broke. I did call them to return them and they said I wasnt the only one which made me feel SO much better. Although in the past I have had some issues but I was almost 400lbs then. I think its time to go take a peek at some new ones thnks for asking ... and answering this question

I found bag chairs at Sam's or Costco, sorry can't remember which one, and they were rated for 350. I always carry my own to any picnics or outdoor functions we're invited to.
I found a folding camp chair (the kind that goes in a bag) at Sam's with a capacity for 350 lbs. and carry it with me everywhere. I have another one I got at Costco a couple of years back that just folds up and it's nice too. Even has a little fold out table at the side. Needless to say, everyone is envious when I break that one out! How special....
I bought mine in the camping section at WalMart years ago. The brand was COLEMAN... the same as many camping items. I have had mine for MANY years and it still holds OVER 300++++ lbs. It has held a couple of people weighing almost 400.
I also often carry a metal folding chair you can buy for under $10 at Walmart and I have never had a problem with them either.
