Default Depressed, and for a change its not about food!

My DH (a local truck driver) just called me a couple of hours ago. He said " I just made a $130 mistake" My heart just sank. He was at a red light, and he needed to make turn. A car was in his way, but moved back for him. Well, the car didn't move back far enough, and DH scratched his turn signal. The owner of the car works in insurance claims. DH said that it was a tiny scratch, and the guy knows someone in the body shop, so all we have to pay is $130. I know it could be a lot more, and I know to most everyone that doesn't seem like much. I'm a stay at home mom, and it takes all we have to make ends meet. I don't know why, but I have let this ruin my morning. I was planinng to do some listing on eB*y for extra cash, now I guess I have no choice I better get to it.

Thanks for letting me vent, sorry to be so whinny.

PS on a lighter note. I didn't splurge at lunch, no matter how badly I wanted too.

Thanks
Christie

Will insurance pay you back?

Hey, if you give platelettes twice they'll pay you like $50 so maybe you could both do that and it would help out.

Hi. Sorry to hear you had a bad morning. I had a similar incident a week ago. I accidentally didn't see a car while I was backing out of a parking spot at Walmart. I barely tapped it. My first accident ever and driving for 30 yr's. I felt so bad about it. We couldn't afford this. I have a $1000.00 deductible on my insurance, so I know this will all come out of pocket. I expect this to cost us close to $1000.00 since my SUV is very large and I hit a tiny car and his door is dented in. I am unable to work and my DH is already working overtime to pay the bills. So, I completely understand your frustration. But, it can happen to anyone. Good luck and take care.

What is this exactly?

he was in the company truck. We really don't want this to go on his record, so they have agreed to deal with it outside of the insurance co.

I'm sorry that happened...that sucks! I couldn't even imagine trying to drive a big truck *shudder*.....I'm bad enough in my small car!

I'm glad you're only having to pay $130! My DH's precious car, which is his dream car...new and black.... was hit by someone in a parking lot. We don't know who hit it. There is a big dent and scratch. Which we get to pay for out of pocket because we have a high deductible, to "save" money on insurance! It will be over $300. So , it could be worse!

Congratulations on not splurging on lunch! WTG!!! It is so hard to remain in control when stress happens!

If the guy that got hit works in insurance, then you'd think he'd know about this kind of accident. Trucks have warnings on them that they make wide right turns, and anyone with a brain knows that you don't drive up on the right side of a truck that is going to turn right...
How do you know this wasn't a scam? I hope your husband didn't just give the guy $130 - he probably just put it in his pocket and went on his way. It probably wouldn't have cost that much to just replace the plastic cover over the lights anyway....
It just sounds fishy to me... but then again I HATE STUPID DRIVERS... and I live in a town full of them (I prefer to drive in larger towns and cities because people aren't as dumb, at least in my experience)

Last night I locked my keys in my truck, and had to pay someone 50.00 to get it out. For some reason this infuriated me to no end, because it was such a stupid thing to do...and a stupid thing to spend money on.

Looking at it today I can accept that it's not a big deal but 50.00 in the bank is better than 50.00 in the locksmith's pocket. I'm glad I'm not alone in auto-related frusterations.

I agree that if there are warnings posted on the truck, then the other driver is taking his chances by being so close, and not heeding the warnings. that's a legal issue there.

I just moved from a little podunk of maybe 20,000 ppl to one of 500,000 ppl..and the driving here is better. More people = more bad and more good drivers, but I've mainly only seen the good ones. Does that mean I'm the bad one?

While people need to be smart with their money, I don't worry too much about the small stuff (unless it means I might bounce checks at the end of the month) because I look at it as.."will you miss that $50.00 6 months from now or will you have likely blown it on something else?" If you worry about the small stuff...try worrying about medical bills. Those are beyond your control too and eat up cash flow big time. At least mine do. Just a part of being an adult. Because I'm a spazz about things like locking my keys in my cars, I subscribe to towing/roadside service insurance ($2/mo extra) and I use it!

Or maybe the car was in the street where your husband was turning onto, and he hit the front turn signal of the car with the front of the truck??
In any case, as long as your husband had the right of way, I would think that the blame would rest with the other guy. I just wouldn't pay the money unless it is directly to the shop that is fixing the cover... otherwise the guy may just pocket the cash.
I have much sympathy for anyone that drives a truck for a living (I used to go with my ex all time when he hauled grain) - people in passenger vehicles drive like they are crazy around big trucks... The big truck WILL eat your little car!

I think the "platelettes" post referred to being paid to donate blood, so if you donate twice and your DH donates twice, that would cover the costs. I think. Not that this is my suggestion. Not that I would want to sell my blood. Not that this is a weird concept or anything...

OK, so I backed into my friend's car in our driveway at at really, really low speed. I got the dent sucked out of my car for $80. We took the other car to the dent shop that we use, and got an estimate for $180 to repair. My friends insisted on taking the car to their body shop, for $595. We paid out of pocket ($500 deductable on our insurance, anyways, so why not pay the extra $95 too...). Talk about aggrievating. YES they have the choice, but HONESTLY, especially since we took their car to our dent shop because they were so impressed with the work done on our vehicle.

@ optical goddess. i know, I hate stuff like that! I do try not to let the small stuff get to me, but when I put of buying certain things for myself, (like going to the salon, or clothes that actually fit) to save money, then I have to spend it on something so silly, its frustrating.

Yes, Amanda I think that is what happened. And your right, when I drove truck, it seemed like people acted crazy when they get near a truck. It used to inferiate me.

freiamaya You would think because this was a FRIEND, they would have been a little more agreeable. I can't believe someone would be so stubborn. Good for you though for taking the "high road"

(please forgive my spelling, my spell check isn't working
