another surgery, or so it seems. Thursday I go to U of MO to see another bariatric specialist to see wheather or not he will put a 'stint' in my small intestine. I guess I have a diverticulum (some finger like pocket there, right below where the small intest and stomach are attached). My dr is afraid that I will end up getting food in to this pocket, that will get infected, burst, create an abcess and then find it's way through the scar tissue I have and create another fistula like problem. He just got back from the huge bariatric conference in San Francisco last week and said that the Bariactric community as a whole are now not going to 'wait and see' b/c people are having so many problems later on... that they are taking a pro-active approach to these 'issues' now. (great all those weeks of NPO and TPN for nothing

) Anyway I guess my dr. Dr. H asked this new dr, Dr. S, if he would see me.... Dr. S said I need to see her ASAP so she can get her quality of life back. (that almost seems caring to me, what do you think??)
Anyway wish me luck with my consult on Thursday. I hope and pray they will schedule the proceedure for shortly afterward. As soon as the date is in the book, my port-a-cath (the port under the skin that I get my IV meds and TPN through) will be taken out... There is an infection in it (from the fistula) and it can't be sterilized so it needs to be removed ASAP. Maybe I'll be able to eat FOOD by Thanksgiving or Christmas.... cause I know I won't be off the hook for cooking them, either way.
The TPN has stalled my weight loss. It has anywhere between 1500-1800 calories in it... not to mention the 'clear liquids' I get to drink. I mostly just have water and sugar free popcicles. Yesterday I had only water (not even in the mood for a crappy popcicle anymore)..... just kinda depressing knowing I should still be loosing weight, even slowly, but now I've even gained like 3 lbs back. SAD SAD SAD (and all Dr. H's fault)
Hope all is well with all of you,
Hugs,
Sharmel
***UPDATED***
okay to answer a few of the questions..... Yes I am a mil spouse, but no this dr, Dr. H is a local dr. I live in the country (Cow pie central is what I call it) He's done over 600 RNY's and I am the first to have these problems. Mostly they are b/c of leaks at the suture sites, or infections/abcess' that develop afterward. Nothing that I can think of seems to be neglegent. And no, he will still be my Dr after I see Dr. S on Thursday... Dr. S is supposed to be one of the leading bariatric dr's in the midwest, AND he's the only one willing to put in the stint. (they haven't had to do many of them yet, so not everyone's comfortable doing them... he's done a few though). As for the TPN... I"m only on it for 12 hrs a day (thankfully when I went to st. louis they said that 24 hr tpn at home was ridiculous and changed that order) My tpn is premixed with lipids in it... cause in the hospital I was on tpn w/o lipids and I gained over 100 lbs in pitted ademia all over my body (I was sausage lady, not a real person, and I couldn't figure out why my knees couldn't/wouldn't hold my weight or allow me to walk). So it was changed so that wouldn't happen again. Thanks ladies for the words of encouragement... and I"ll let you know how the consult goes with Dr. S on Thursday.
Hugs,
Shar
