Question Question about Fitday activity log......

I was curious if anyone logging activities on Fitday has experienced a dramatic drop in calories burned regarding Time spent exercising Vs Distance. I power walk and log under "very, very brisk pace 4.5 mph" for 3.3 miles, yesterday I did this in record time (50 min) and thought logically I was burning more calories. I logged it and the calories burned dropped from 391 burned (in 1 hour 30 min) to 217 (50 min) 3.3 miles. Am I burning more walking slower? Would it be benefical to take my time? It doesn't make sense to me.

I don't trust the fit day site for accurate calculation of calories burned. In fact, I'm really not certain how to figure that out. Example...

I walk 10 miles on my treadmill while wearing my pedometer and then log those miles in fit day. All three sources- treadmill, pedometer & fit day - read vastly different calories burned. Treadmill reads the highest number, followed by the pedometer, with fit day coming in dead last with the lowest number of calories burned. I have no idea what to believe!!!

Sorry I'm of no help!!! I'd love to hear what others have to say. Good luck to you!

i'm also a confused one bc i thought that the ultimate number of calories burned depended on the distance and terrain (uphill, flat, etc.). there might be SLIGHT differences in running v. walking, but i would assume them to be negligible.

it irks me that i only burn 150 calories walking 3 miles, but burn 300 or so when i run it... but then again i am not too accurate sometimes with the food entries, so maybe it evens out in the end it's only an estimate after all.

If you're walking the same distance in 50 min. vs. 1 hr. and 30 min., but recording 4.5 mph for both, that doesn't make sense to me. If you're walking the same distance in less time, then you're going faster, right? Or when you were walking 1 hr. and 30 min., you were going slower than 4.5 mph.

When I run the same distance in less time than I walk, Fitday always records a higher calories burned number because I'm going faster than when I walk because it does consider intensity. I like Fitday because it knows how much you weigh (assuming you've entered all the pertinent information), how old you are, etc., so it should calculate more accurately than machines that don't ask for that information.

Don't I feel silly.....I forgot I was logging that speed prior due to the weights I was wearing on my legs and arms...26 extra lbs. Oh duh! Made me walk alot slower but I didn't know how to log the extra weight carried. I'm so absent minded some times. Thanks!
