Default July Fun in the Sun and Active Living

Ok.. it is July already! So I've taken the liberty of starting our exercise thread.

This month let's focus on getting outdoors and moving. Exercise is important but so is fresh air and a little sun. According to our June thread http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85843 our front doors are all near wonderful possibilities for moving outside each day.

Some of us can walk to stores
play golf
ride our bikes
work in the garden

Let's keep moving... but don't forget the sunscreen.

Ok.. my head is back up.. holding it high. I did 50 minutes of intensive yoga and 40 minutes of exercise on the ball.

My goals for June were met mostly each week except for the last week. I've worked strength training in better than before, continued with yoga, gotten plenty of cardio on the mill and with the jump rope, and also dusted off the bike.

I didn't do so well with the strength training challenge each day... you know the one where we tried something new or just worked something in during our day to day activities but the challenge was still benefitial as I learned several new moves.

July's goals? Let's see...

90 min of exercise EVERY day. 60 min of cardio and 30 min of yoga or strength training. Also, every day must have some form of outside activity. It can be part of the workout or just a peek in the garden to weed a little etc.

I'll have an "off" day every now and then.. maybe once a week but will still do 90 minutes of something to fill in the block. Stretching, a stroll to the park, a leisurely bike ride, meditating yoga (no difficult or intense moves), etc.

So how about everyone else? Any new goals...

Thinking of a challenge that will help all of us.....

For me I think a challenge would be to post on this thread EVERY SINGLE DAY to keep me accountable. Anyone up for this?

July will be my month to really get a handle on all of this. But I need help. How about it Phantastica and Casey and you lurkers?

I'm a pretty inconsistent exerciser, but I can commit to post what I did (or neglected to do) every day!

Today, I've done nothing. Yesterday, I did nothing. The day before (the 4th), I picked berries (OK, not exercise but might qualify as "active living"), and I walked for about 45 minutes with my friend J.

It doesn't have to be just exercise, active living.. everything counts. Including berry picking.

Today I walked on the mill 3.3 miles for 65 min while watching the rest of a movie I started yesterday.

No outdoor activity... no strength training..

Today was only 25 minutes of strength training lower body.

No cardio... no outside stuff...

I did use the crossbow for the first time today... to do leg extensions. It was harder than I thought.

Default Friday and Saturday Exercise

I walked with a friend after work on Friday, on the trails by work, for about 45 minutes.

I walked early Saturday morning with my friend J, about 2 hours, on the trails by her house.

Everything else has been pretty sedentary. I was going to re-plant some flowers, but I lost my shed key! Today I have a wedding/couples shower to attend, so I don't see too much opportunity for exercise there. I might hit another friend up for a walk, though, this evening.

Phantastica, did you find the shed key yet? Those flowers want to move.
You are getting in quite a bit of walking outside every day. I imagine you walking and talking with your friends on outside trails. Very picturesque!

Yesterday I walked on the mill for 20 min (1.3 mi) and did strength training for 65 min ... this is strenuous stuff included with stretching and all that.

No outside activity... but I did watch the world cup... (Does that count if I watched someone do outside activity from my living room?)

I had plenty of time.. I just was lazy.
I'm not doing well on my challenge.
But glad to have a place to admit it.

Default Sunday and Monday Exercise

Sunday: not much, went to a pre-wedding celebration. Walking to and from the dessert table, maybe? ha

Monday: walked about 5 miles with my friend J. Her son dropped us off at a trail, and we followed it to our TOPS meeting. Was kind of warm, but not unbearable. It amazes me how quickly 5 miles goes by when you've done it a few times in recent history!

DS just told me where the shed key was. I will replant later this week or weekend. Oh, and sorry I said flowers - they're actually houseplants.

Default Tuesday & Wednesday Activity

Tuesday: 20-minute walk with coworker

Wednesday: I biked to the library to drop off a book ... 4.5 miles round-trip, took 20 minutes.

Now ... a few thoughts on what I could do for Thursday and Friday. It's going to be waaaay hot (90s and humid) through next Wednesday, so I can't count on doing much outside. I could Mall Walk, perhaps, on Thursday. DS is going to his dad's house on Friday, so Friday night and through the weekend I could do DVDs in the living room.

DVD's would be good for when it's too hot outside. You also have your stability ball, free weights and resistance band. Don't forget the university gym you have access to. It's air condtioned, no?

I was wondering why you wouldn't do the DVD's even when your son is home.. I remember you said that he likes exercise... I do all sorts of exercises whether my son is here or not.. the only thing that might restrict me is if he has a friend over. Then I obviously can't do yoga unless it's in the bedroom.

Well, actually I prefer yoga in the bedroom anyway.. it is quieter and I can make it a little darker than the rest of the house (we have large windows most everywhere).

Not sure what exercises I'll do today.
