Hi all.

Judy - I was catching up on posts from last week and laughed when I saw you mention the veggie pie. I was just thinking about that the other day - it's been ages since I made it. I'll have to get the recipe out and give it a go - I have some frozen veggies that would be perfect in it. Sorry about the gain, but you'll have it off in no time. How cool that you discovered a water aerobics class! My mom has been encouraging me to seek one out at the Y and I'm thinking maybe I will give it a go. As for the Cubbies doing better than the Yankees, oh my goodness no. They are in the basement. No, they're in the sub-basement. They're going to have to win just about every game from here on out just to hit .500 for the season. I think this will be the last year for Dusty Baker, although you can't blame it all on the manager. Our two star pitchers have been injury-plagued all year. Funny how I know all this and I haven't watched one game.

We did indeed get two kittens last Monday, from a shelter. They are about as adorable as they can be. It's so cute watching Ana play and take care of them. And we lucked out - they're both really affectionate with us, and with each other. Although, they like to wrestle with each other as well. Kaly (pronounced with a short "a", like alley) is 13 weeks old and is a female Calico. (We kept the names that the shelter gave them.) The boy kitty, who is 11 weeks, is an orange tabby. His name is Morris, but we call him Moe for short. Morris just doesn't seem to fit a little kitten in general and him in particular. Either Kaly is the runt of her litter or Moe is bigger than usual, cause she's really tiny compared to him. I expect the vet will tell us which it is when we bring them in in a couple of days.

I was up a few pounds with last week's weigh-in. I suspect some of it was water as my rings were tight. I should be getting my period tomorrow if I'm back on schedule. Saturday I managed the 15 minute walk home from getting my hair cut and wasn't any worse for the wear, so I think I'll try to start some walking, versus getting on the stationary bike. Unfortunately, it's raining again today. Perhaps when John gets home this evening it will be clear skies. Anybody have good plans for tomorrow? We'll go to the parade in the morning and in the afternoon we'll go to our friend's annual BBQ, as we have for the last 20 plus years. It will be easy to eat properly as there is always lots of veggies and a nice green salad. I just hope the weather cooperates!

Have a great day and for those of us in the States, a happy and safe 4th!

Default Q

Carla - Sorry about the gain but if your rings are tight you know it's water. You know, I think the hot and humid weather makes water retention worse. Kaly and Moe, how cute! I think it's great that you got two kities and it's great that they not only have a great human family now but each other as well. I'm sure they will be life-long friends growing up together. I'm sure that Ana is having a blast playing with them and taking care of them. Good for you for walking home from getting your hair cut! Hey, I've always been an advocate of the best exercise is the one you'll do. Definitely check out the water aerobics. I had a blast - the instructor had great music and it was a ton of fun. I can't wait until I can do it again (I hope the PT gives me the OK for the end of this week.) It really is easy on the joints and maybe because you don't get all sweaty, it doesn't quite seem as if you are working out as hard as you are. In the meantime, and with the PT's OK, I've been walking in the pool. She wants me to limit it to 20 minutes which I've been doing. Hopefully, she'll up my allowed time when I see her on Wed. Oh, and of course, I've been doing my PT stretches. Each session takes about 25 - 30 minutes and I have to do them at least twice a day. Have fun at the BBQ.

Our BBQ was yummy and a lot of fun yesterday but I used about 15 flex points! My rings were very tight this morning and between that and the fact that TOM showed up (early!!) on Saturday, I wasn't stressed at the awful sneak peek this morning. We're planning on a quiet day tomorrow. The weather may be stormy - it certainly is staying humid. I want to walk in the pool in the morning and then we'll probably just hang out and relax.

My leader gives us a new calendar each month with different suggestions, encouragement, etc. for each day. I thought I'd share some that I find helpful. One that's helped me in the last couple of days is the one for July 1st: Write down 3 positive steps you will take over this long holiday weekend to stay on your weight loss plan." My steps are to 1) write down everything I eat 2) get in some activity every day and 3) make foods that help me stay OP (like the cucumber and beet salads I made - 0 points!)

For July 45h, the calendar says, "Celebrate life, liberty and the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle!"

Have a great one and for those of us in the States, have a safe and happy July 4th!

Hi all.

Judy - I hope that you had nice weather yesterday. Our's was darn near perfect. The BBQ was nice and I did pretty well. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your PT gives you the ok for another water aerobics session. In the meantime, enjoy walking across the pool!

I'm up 1.6 pounds this morning. My period arrived last night, so that might explain some of it. I've realized that I haven't really been drinking water the way I should be, so I'm really going to focus on that this week. I'm also challenging myself to journal all week. I start out ok, and then fizzle. My next dr.'s appt is in 6 weeks and he's expecting to see some pounds off. And now to wake up Ana and start a busy day.

Have a great day.

Carla - Sorry about the gain but between TOM and not drinking enough water (and humid weather) you know it's water retention. Good for you for the journal challege! Did you journal yesterday and how are you doing today? I know you will lose before your doctor's appt. Just keep working it - you know it works if you do!

I had a bit of a rough day yesterday. I woke up feeling a bit feverish and everything in my body hurt. I felt a little better during the day and did my PT session but in the evening I felt feverish again. Maybe that's why I snacked a bit more than I had planned. I journalled everything and still have flex points for the week though. I had a decent sneak peek today (at least it was less than Sat!) so my goal is to make sure the number on Saturday is at least as good. I woke up a little achy - not as bad as yesterday. PT today was a little tough - not only am I doing stretching but some strengthening too - but that's good - I'd say I got in about an hour of light activity. I'm still limited to walking in the pool but that's OK. I'm going to take it easy tonight and try to keep the snacking to a minimum. BTW, the "daily" message is "Try a yummy fresh fruit or vegetable today". Something for me to remember as far as snacking tonight.

It sure is quiet here this week - check in girls no matter how the week is going!

Have a great one!

Judy - I hope you're feeling better. I had a meeting in the city on Thursday, which always tires me out a bit and then yesterday I was putting supply boxes away in cabinets for my church job. So I'm a bit achy. Food has been so-so the last couple of days, but not too bad. I am getting in a lot of water, so that's good.

Have a good weekend.

Carla - sorry to hear that you are achy from the boxes. Good for you for getting the water in. How is the journaling going? Thanks, I am feeling better.

I basically stayed home yesterday and rested (well, except for cleaning out the freezer) which seemed to have done the trick because I felt better when I woke up this morning. While I went to my meeting, I opted not to weigh in. My rings were tight this morning and I just couldn't deal with the scale. I did go back to the materials though and realized that maybe one of the reasons my weight loss has basically come to a standstill is that I really am now in a new target point range - 20 points - ack!!! I've never been at this point range and while it's good that I've lost enough to get there, I don't know how I can eat just 20 points a day (with some flex of course). As I said to my leader this morning though, it is about eating less, isn't it? The next few days are going to be tough though because I need to save some flex points for the middle of the week. We are going down to Philly with my parents to visit my cousin on Tuesday. She is very conscientious about keeping slim so that will help but we're giong out to dinner on Tuesday evening plus we plan on being in the city on Wednesday and having, you guessed it, a Philly cheesesteak for lunch (dinner will be something light on the grill). My leader looked up the Philly cheesesteak and it's 13 points - not awful but you know I'm going to have to dip into my flex points in a big way. Oh well, at least we'll be doing a lot of walking.

I walked in the pool this morning and did one session of my PT stretches. It's time to go do my PT exercises with the band and then Tony and I are going to the movies to see "An Inconvenient Truth." I can't decide if I want to bring some light popcorn with me (which will dip into my flex points) or not bring anything but water. I guess it depends on whether or not Tony plans on getting popcorn. If he does, I think I'd do better to bring some light popcorn.

Have a great one!
