Default Venting, Need Your Opinions

Ok Need to vent

I just got off the phone with my dr and she says that my thyroid is elevated (again) so she is upping my Syntroid (again) , my Cholesterol is down 7 points but is still way high and she has no idea why I keep gaining weight, even with the 1000 cal a day diet and the walking 2miles a day everyday and she just can't understand why the diet that the nutrionist put me on isn't working she has never seen it fail, I must be doing it all wrong.... But she does want me to monitor my blood sugar levels 3 times a day after meals and since I have allot of Diabetes in my family I should try to borrow a meter from a family member????? She also feels there is no reason to refer me to a Endo for my thyroid even though I have SO many problems with it.

Are you in the position to seek a second opinion? Can you see an endo without a referral from your dr?

Did you see any weight loss initially on the 1000 calorie diet? If so, it may be that you popped into starvation mode with the low calories and the activity. Are you measuring and weighing everything? I know that when I get lax on weighing and measuring I can sometimes over estimate throughout the day to the tune of an extra 300 calories or more. Have you seen the nutritionist again? If you can, you should. Just to check your progress and to get some ideas from the nutrionist on what to eat if you do have sugar issues.

Good Luck and I hope that you can find a way to see the results you are looking for.

O I do the Diet correctly, I have to long in what I eat and take it in to the Nutrionist 1 a month. I have not seen any results except gain since Jan. I am going to get a 2nd opinion. I can see an endo w/o a referral it is just finding one in my area that doen's require a referral.

Gotcha. Has the nutrionist talked to your dr? Maybe you can ask he/she to contact your dr and ask for further testing since they see your logs and such. Hopefully you can find answers soon. I know how frustrating it is when you are doing everything according to the dr's plan/nutrionist plan and yet not see results.

Is there any chance that you are pregnant?

They are in the same office so I have only one chart so my Dr sees everything from the nutrionist.

No chance I am pregnant, had my tubes tied 6 yrs ago, plus I take loestrin bc pills (to help with my thyroid & menstral cycle)

But that is how I found out I was hypothyroid, because I was 4months late and gained 30 lbs my gyno did a blood test to see if I was pregnant and found my thyroid problem

Well hopefully with the new adjustment in your thyroid med you will see results.

Keep plugging! You will find the answer.
