Question Steps Walked vs Miles Walked

Once in a while I use a pedometer, but something has me confused...if someone walks say 2000 steps - approx. a mile, are they actually covering ground of a mile? As in (assuming someone has an average stride) if you drove a car exactly 1 mile, would 2000 steps take you to around the same distance? TIA!

The first pedometer I had allowed me to measure my stride and enter it. Then the machine counted the miles according to that.

It all depends on your stride .

With my pedometer it says that it "automatically adjusts to your stride" - so how accurate is mine for steps vs miles?

I don't know. I suppose you could measure out a mile and see.

Yeah... I just use the meter on my jogging stroller. I had a pedometer back in the day but I don't remember how they work. If you plan on walking the same route everyday you can just set the trip timer on your car and measure out a mile
