I hate it when the moderators close topics just because they feel things are getting a little heated. All we're doing is having discussions and voicing our opinions. Now, if a thread got COMPLETELY out of hand, where people were calling each other names and getting really nasty, that I could understand. But I'm talking specifically about the "organic foods" topic in the food section. I read those threads and saw nothing nasty about what was going on. All people were doing was voicing their opinions. So what? Isn't that what discussion is all about? I saw no nastiness going on in that thread. And if I were the original author of the thread and still had opinions to give, I'd be a little upset about that.
Anyway, sorry if this offends anyone, but I had a thought/feeling on the subject of closing threads and wanted to voice it. I've seen this happen a few times recently and it bothers me. I'm a moderator/owner a few boards on the net. Basically I provide a place for people to play and/or talk. If they end up in arguments, that's life. It's gonna happen. It's not my place to play "mom" and tell them they can no longer talk about a particular subject. Now, if it gets really out of hand and they start screaming at each other and calling each other names (which is rare, I mean come on, we're adults here and I think we know where to draw the line) then yes, I'll step in. Otherwise I leave them be. Sometimes disagreement happens. Life isn't all peaches and roses. And if we *DO* get a little upset with each other here, we're mature enough to know when to apologize and kiss and make up. But really, I don't believe it ever gets THAT nasty.
I dunno I kinda understand the concept of keeping things "on topic". There is a bingeing thread that was closed due to the conversation being devoted to a girl who was recently raped, now that is down right terrible but still it caused the thread to take on a whole other life. Without the moderators making those types of judgement calls, one would find themselves searching for a topic that won't necessarily exist (anymore) in that thread. Therefore, the quality of the site would be compromised. IMHO

Oh believe me, I perfectly understand that. Like I said, I moderate/own a few forums (not related to weight loss) and sometimes it's necessary for me to step in. But I saw nothing wrong with this particular thread.
