Cool Greetings and Salutations

Greetings and Salutations everyone. I am new to this. In fact I didn't know these types of forums existed till I did a search for Pam Brown after watching an inspirational TV show on Discovery Health. I am at the beginning process of losing weight. And could use any and all suggestions and supports etc. I'm a single Mom, 34 years 287 lbs 5'7". I'm told I am big framed that my ideal weight I should be looking for is 180 lbs. I decided to finally lose weight after a promise I made ages ago that if I hit 300 lbs. it was time to be serious. And after my son visited the local hospital on a field trip told me he didn't want me to die that he wanted me to live for a long time. After being very emotional after being told that I finally concluded it was time. I had hit 297 lbs. and if I continued I would be like my father. I already suffer from high cholorestoral and Hypertension. Both genically given to me by my father who just happens to be almost 400 lbs. I don't want to be like him. And I want to live as long as possible for my 6 year old son. I do tend to babble or ramble so please try and be patient with me. hehe. Bless you all.

Joyce

Hi and welcome! Hey, my name is Joyce too! Don't see that name too often.

This is a great board to read through and post on. You'll find lots of support from some very nice people that are going through the same stuff. Looks like you have gotten off to a good start. You're 10 pounds down. That's great! Keep thinking about being healthy and keep your weight loss healthy. You can do this!

Well, everyone is different and needs to find their own "thing". However, I will say this. Find some small ways to get yourself healthier. I started out by learning to cut some fat and calories out of my cooking and started to learn more about portions. This helped me to see where the calories were coming from! I also started exercising. Slowly at first, 1 mile approx. 3 times a week. As I got stronger and started seeing the scale move it spurred me on to do even more.

Think about the different eating plans out there and what might be a good fit for you. Don't make drastic changes all at once. You'll burn out!

Read around the boards here. You'll see lots of different eating plans. Maybe something will "click" with you. Just make sure you can live with what you do. Think of this as a lifestyle change, something you can do long term.

Good luck!
