Ok so is this just me or does anyone else have this problem? Whenever Im on my period I'm sooo tired and dont want to work out. I worked out today for 30 mins but not as hard as I usally do. I just feel soo tired and warn out. Any suggestions?
Try drinking more water and boosting your calories up a little but with good natural sugars like fruit, it might give you that little extra pep in your step. But regardless we all have our good and bad work out days , the best part is that we still have workout days and you are still going which is great. Keep with it sister!
If you're not feeling 100%, it's unreasonable to expect you to give 100%. Do what you feel comfortable with, even if that means you do absolutely nothing (exercise-wise) for a day or two a month. In the big scheme of things, a day or two won't derail your progress.
I have been noticing the same thing myself for the last couple months. This week it seemed like so much more work to get in my walks and wouldnt ya know it TOM came. But like everyone else said at least it will be gone soon.
It's definitely not just you. When I have my TOM, all I want to do is be a slug and lay in bed all day. Last week, (when I had it), I forced myself to go work out. Though I know I wasn't going at the intensity I usually do, I found that working out did help relieve some of my stomach cramps. Funny how that works, eh?
I'm like PandyCat, I feel totally sluggish, but when i do manage to get off my butt and exercise, my cramps seem to feel much better, even if its something as low intensity as walking.
Yes, when the first couple of days arrive I feel like a total slug Often times, if I try to get up and go on a gentle walk or do some light exercise, I feel a bit better. But I don't usually go full steam - my body just doesn't seem to like that too much, and who am I not to listen to my body?
I hope so!!!! ~ I've worked out twice today, and I have my period. My absence of energy comes during PMS in the form of a two hour nap. So I guess I'm lucky. And exercising during this time is supposed to helpful with the lackluster energy and cramps if you have them.
I'm looking that up, BTW, totally intrigued.
*edit* Here's what I found, though still looking:
The evidence is that women's bodies burn more calories between ovulation and menstruation. That's why sugary snacks look so good during this period. Don't starve yourself, but if you can resist the cravings for high-energy foods, your body will burn fat stores for energy. This suggests during PMS, we burn more calories. Don't you think ovulation has to burn a little bit more calories? It's probably only like 10 or 15 though!! But then the fallopian tubes have to push the egg through, that's got to be another 15
Something else I found : Ovulation - Women can have a cyclic increase in RMR of 4-16% during ovulation.
Hee hee, I typed in "How many calories does ovulation burn?"

I looked it up once and found this arical that talked about Lunar (or something) Period and all this and that you do burn more but I didn't know if that before, during, or after. I was just confused by the whole thing and decided that I would just work out the same all the time. So be sure to let me know of your findings!
Okay, instead of continued editing; I found an incredibly interesting site about our body clocks (lots of stuff about our periods) here's what it says about our metabolisms:
Of course, you can gain permanent weight during the premenstrual phase if you give in to cravings you may have for sugary or fatty foods. And many women do give in to those cravings, consuming an average of 500 extra calories each day during the ten days before their periods! Fortunately, your basal metabolic rate (the minimum amount of energy you need to keep your body working) is at its highest right before menstruation, and a higher metabolic rate means that you burn calories more easily. That, however, does not mean that you can wolf down a pint of chocolate ice cream and not expect itto find its way to your thighs. We're talking about burning only a very few extra calories!
If you are thinking about going on a diet, the best time to do it is right after your period. Many women find that their desire for sweets is noticeably reduced during the preovulatory phase of their menstrual cycle. Obviously, the worst time to start a diet is right before your period, when your craving for food will be strongest. In fact, you are five times more likely to quit your diet at this time of your cycle.
Wow great stuff guys...it also goes along with my other post. I've been feeling like eating alot of junk that last few days...it's getting hard. Hopefully this will pass soon!
Do you get the weak feeling in your legs??!! My bones feel like theyre so brittle , they'd break any moment during TOM! I still exercise though, it usually makes me feel better.
