Default Scariest book or movie

Ok I admit it, I am a ghost story, scary movie, scary book loving girl. I have read lots of books and saw lots of movies, now I want to know what you guys find frightening. I love the book The Shining, it gives me goosebumps everytime, and the only movie that gives me chills so far has been The Grudge. So what scares you?

Well, I'm opposite of you guys. I can't handle scary movies in the least...I go so far as to not liking a movie if anyone dies in it...especially kids (teenagers) or families. I end up relating it too much to my own kids and family and put myself in the shoes of the victim or end up thinking, what if my son or daughter met an end like that? How horrible!! I was at my BIL's this fall and I was in the other room while they were watching Jeeper's Creepers and I couldn't believe the sounds I was hearing!! Some poor soul being mutalated!! Or at least that's what it sounded like. Bleh!! I'm still having issues only having HEARD it from the other room. I just don't like violence, as a whole...I end up overthinking it and start crying.

But..

I have to say, I did watch a movie once that I thought was fabulous...Brahm Stoker's Dracula. I mean, it was basically a love story...which is ALWAYS up my alley. But I thought that was very well done and I also liked Poultergeist. I think, mostly, because I saw it with my brother in high school and he took me out to Friendly's for a sunday afterwards (LOVE my brother!!), but it was a great movie and a great memory of hangin with my bro . I also liked Amityville Horror. I love ghosts...jsut not murder and mutalation. The Shining was very good too...except for the part when he was chasing down his own son in the maze...but it was awesome how he escaped. I also liked Sixth Sense...more of a paranormal event than a gross horror thing.

In all, I feel that life it too stressful in itself to complicate matters iwth a horror movie...I'll take a Matthew McConaughey romantic comedy ANYDAY!!

Hi guys,

All I can say is whenever I see a preview of a really scary movie I always say I will NEVER watch that. As soon as it comes out on DVD I am one of the first ones to rent it.

The movies I think bothered me the most had to be.....13 Ghosts, Saw (Only the first one, the second one wasn't that bad), The Ring. I'm sure there are more but I just can't remember right now. 13 Ghosts was probably the worst for me. There is a character in it called the Jackel that I was totally bothered by. Oh I almost forgot about Jeeper's Creepers.

My favorite author of all times has to be Stephen King and Dean Koontz is a close second. I can't count how many Stephen King books I have. I lost count.

Oh Saw! I spent most of my time with my face in a cushion!

Scary films are fantastic.

I can't watch scary movies at all, they freak me out!!! The last one I saw was the Exorcist at a friend's Halloween party. I think I had my hands over my eyes half the time.

HOWEVER. I love to read scary books once in a while. I used to read a lot of Stephen King and V.C. Andrews (back when some of her stuff was really creepy, like Flowers in the Attic). I haven't read anything recently more due to lack of time than anything.

The first movie that comes to mind for me is the Texas Chain Saw Masscre.... I saw the original a couple years ago but recently saw the newer one with Jessica Biel and my heart was beating so fast the entire movie... Very scary!

Salem's Lot always got to me. When the vampire's are flying above the window and tapping at it to let them in. I can't watch that movie.

I have been VERY disipointed with all recent horror movies... nothing seems to get me scared anymore. Maybe I am just being immune?

Anyway, I saw Silent Hill - just awesome! Hard to understand because I never played the game, but it was scarey and good. Not totally stupid like all recent horror movies. No they don't turn into aliens or anything dumb like that. See it!

As for books, I recently (like last week recently) read John Saul's The Perfect Nightmare it was good, not super scarey, but kept me on my toes and turning the pages. Another of his books that I remember reading was.... oh damn, it had a purple cover with a house... hmmm.... I actually found it on amazon! The Right Hand of Evil http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...470794-0077912 it was a few years ago I read it but I remember I LOVED it. I might have to read that one again. I like Stephan King as well but mostly his older stuff. I bought a few books last week from Costco all of them supposed to be scarey, we shall see how that goes.

When I was little (like 3) my FAVOURTIE movie was Child's Play. Didn't scare me at all, now it is just stupid! haha... the only movies that scared me when I was little was the Wizzard of Oz and those flying monkies! We have apartments below the house and they have those erie orange lights and they shine up from below and threw our trees and when the trees would blow it would make it look like the flying monkies were outside my window (from the shadows on the wall). Apparently I was also scared by the oringal King Kong. haha

If I think of anything else I will be sure to let you know!

The first "Nightmare on Elm Street" scared me, and more recently "Rosemary's Baby". That one totally wigged me out.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was really freaky and scary as was Evil Dead (the scenes in the woods and that horrible sound ) The rest of the films in those two series got sillier and sillier but the first two were great screamingly great!

The Shining was a good one too. The part that freaked me out the most was when the kid was in the slide/tube

I also liked The Ring and The Grudge - The cat sound still grates on my nerves!

I almost peed my pants! Something else weird happened too but I can't remember. Anyway I ended up getting a ride home, haha.

My husband and I watch TV at night in bed before we go to sleep and he's always watching Comedy Central or some channel that has loads of scary movie ads and I always have to close my eyes and have him tell me when it's over. One movie clip that had me having nightmares (just the ad for it, mind you!! Thank God I never saw the whole movie!) was, I think, the Grudge...the view is from a survelience (SP) camera of a ghostly girl walking down a hallway and just as she goes out of view of the camera, up come her eyes an inch from the camera... Oh...my....GAWD...I literally had nightmares of those eyes peeping up from my side of the bed and woke up with a big ole jolt and a scream that woke up my husband!

Actually, I thought the Ring was pretty cool. I saw it in bits and pieces on HBO. Very clever movie, I thought.
