Default New to this site but not 3 fatchicks

Just found out May 1st that I was pregnant. It was confirmed on Friday May 5th. This will be our 1st child. I am so scared because I know how quick I gain weight. I felt so bad because I was upset because I had just lost 53lbs since Jan, was only 20lbs from realistic goal, now I know I will end up gaining some. I have already gained 1 lb. I hope that since I am still eating healthy and there is no junk food in our house then I can maintain a decent weight. I hate feeling like this. We have been trying for 3 1/2 years and at my last yearly (3months ago) my blood results showed I was low in progesterone and needed to go see a specialist. Never made it to the specialist. My husband has lost 41 lbs since Jan. Guess the lossing weight and eating healthy helped.

Yeah, I think a lot of us here are in the boat that we got knocked up just when our goal weight was in sight. Are you having your progesterone levels monitored now? Try not to worry too much about the weight. I gained 35 pounds with my number three, and it almost all came off within a month.

Thanks for the support. No so far I am not having my progesterone monitored. I haven't had my first prenatal visit yet, so I am not sure what all is going on. Just know that I am about 5 weeks along. Thanks again.

Yup. Don't let it bother you. I was just 5 from my goal. And even though I tried to continue eating right and exercising clear through the pregnancy, I kept packing on pounds. I gained 60 pounds! But at some point, I stopped worrying about it. I knew that if I kept eating right and exercising, it would continue with me after the pregnancy and I'd lose the weight easily enough. But I actually dropped 30 of those pounds in the first week. Then another 15 came off fairly quickly. I've been stuck on a plateau but it was just because I had so much going on that I wasn't concentrating terribly hard on exercise.

But if you've been losing successfully, then you know you can continue doing it after the baby arrives. You already know how.

Congratulations!!!!

I too was just getting my mojo going again when I found out I was PG again. I know there is a member over on the 100+ club who actually lost a lot of weight while PG while eating healthy and exercising. She is now well under 200 pounds and doing great.
While PG, I've never gained a lot of weight and I'm just a bit heavier than you. My first I weighed 292 when I found out. I actually maintained a 5 pound loss shortly after that for a while and was about 306 when I delivered her. With my son, I was actually 317 when I found out I was PG with him. I got down to 295 and gained 9 pounds back and had him at 304. My first I never really watched what I ate and if you count dipping out ice cream and spooning it in my mouth as exercise then I was well exercised. I did watch my carbs while PG with my son (I had gest. diabetes.)
HTH.

Congrats!! Please try not to worry about the weight too much - it sounds like you've been waiting for a while for this pregnancy! I had so many fabulous intentions of eating healthy and continuing my exercise, but m/s knocked me flat in that regard. I had to eat all the time (and none of the "healthy" stuff wanted to stay down, but all the simple carbs and dairy did) and I've gained about 17-18 lbs. I am at 17 weeks and thankfully the m/s is starting to ease a little (or the extra unisom/B6 I've started taking in the day is working?). Many women are able to eat very healthily. Try hard not to fall into the "I'm pregnant, I can eat whatever," but don't deprive yourself of a snack here and there, especially if it's all that sounds good!

Thanks everyone! Right now I am doing well. Although I have been craving meat alot. My husband keeps telling me it is just because I haven't had it in so long. I have heard though that if you are craving meat it could mean you are low in iron. I have been taking my prenatal vitamins for around 2 years now so I don't know if it is that or not. My 1st appt. won't be until May 31st. All we eat is ground turkey and chicken instead of meat. Usually if I season up the turkey it will satisfy the craving, but it is not working now. I don't know what to do.

Buy a cast-iron skillet & use it to cook your food. A minute amount of iron will leach out into whatever you cook & enrich it. If memory serves, spinach is also high in iron.

I've only really been gaining at a more sensible rate since my third trimester, but at this juncture, I am 38lbs up from my pre-pregnancy (I started at 155 which was healthy for me) so I am up to 193 currently.

Anyway my best advice, eat as healthy as possible, don't berate yourself for the days you don't and don't let any weight gain put a damper on your pregnancy... I haven't enjoyed my pregnancy as much as I should have due to dwelling on my weight gain.... I have now accepted it and am trying just to enjoy the last 7-8 weeks.

Congrats on the pregnancy BTW!

Sabra: Yup, spinach is an excellent source of iron

One weird thing, my iron levels which are normally low are actually normal during my pregnancy... the reasons? I think more red meat AND a lack of periods (mine are very heavy).

Take care!

Ali

Thanks again guys. I will have to drag out my cast-iron skillet. My grandma gave me one a long time ago. I do like spinach but only in salads. That was the last type of salad makings I bought. Again thanks for the advice. Good luck to you all!!!!
