Default New here, looking for buddy(s)

Hi All!

I'm new here...don't even have a ticker yet because I'm avoiding the scale. I am still trying to figure out the best method to attack my weight and for me, that's really what it is...a full on war so I'm attacking it and treating it like the enemy it is. I have Chronic Fatigue syndrome/FMS so it slows me down a bit but I'm finally realizing that my weight is probably contributing to the aches and pains just as much as those. I would like to join Curves or a gym so I would love any advice or experiences anyone has. I did a tour of the local Y and have a buddy that will go there with me but I'm just not sure I feel comfortable doing their circuit program. I have similar issues with joining a gym full of the already fit. Lots of issues to overcome....but I'm finally ready to work on them. I've been putting the same 27 pounds on and taking it off every summer like clockwork for 5 years and I'm ready to take off the additional 40 PLUS that 27 now. I had a health issue and had to take steroids and I know my weight is up because of that, so I really need to start a plan to take off the weight, strengthen the muscles and get back in touch with that woman I started off being.

Any buddies out there? Any others with chronic pain? Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Scribs.

Default U can do it!

Hi Scribs!

I am brand new too and looking for a little inspiratation!! I have knee problems that discourage me from exercising, and asthma too. I find that going at my own pace is the key. I too am sceptical of gyms with high-energy circuit-training and cardio classes. Over the years I've been to some classes and found that I always overdo it and have an asthmas attack or hurt myself. I prefer the elipticals and the rowing machines, I can get my heart rate up and sweat a bit without having someone dictate to me. It might not be for everyone, but it works for me.
I have a friend who joined Curves. She has only positive things to say really likes their 30 minute-total fitness programs. She works alot too, 45-50 hrs a week, so the shorter workouts work well with her schedule. I'm not sure how rigorous the workouts are, but I'm sure you could make modifications.
Good luck to you! Many of us have limitations (of varying degrees, of course) but we are all trying! You might want to check out the 'Dieting with Obstacles' forum to find out what other people in your situation are doing.
I found it to be encouraging.

Thanks for the tip about the thread. Will check that out. Definitely still planning on Curves. I need something to jumpstart it all.

I suggest you post a Curves thread in the exercise forum. Talk to your doctor about options for you and read, read, read to educate yourself about what's out there diet and exercise wise. Knowing yourself is key b/c what works for someone else may not work for you. See if your buddy is willing to try Curves with you. They might have discounts for 2 joining at the same time. Finding a group or buddy here is also motivating.
