Oatmeal on Phase 2?

  • SO wants to eat something different for breakfast other than eggs. And really likes oatmeal. Is this possible on phase 2?

I went to the store today and they had one that was reduced sugar. But there were still something like 30 carbs per serving.
  • Hi,
I'm a SBD newbie, on Day 8 of Phase I, and after All Those Eggs and Turkey for Breakfast, I've been dreaming of the oatmeal that we can have in Phase II! My understanding is that as long as it's the "real deal", not processed, you can have it (no instant).
    HTH...
  • There is a brand called McCann's with steel cut oats which are supposedly less processed. They also have an instant brand that I wanted to see about getting.
  • I eat the old-fashioned rolled oats that you have to cook a while. I just tried a recipe from the P2 Breakfast board that also has some fruit in it - I think it was Berry Oatmeal Cobbler, or something like that. It was really good!
  • Quaker Old Fashioned Oatmeal here I put cinamon and .5 packate of splenda in mine,, very good.
  • You don't want anything that even sounds like 'instant' when looking for oatmeal. You're looking for the 'old fashioned' kind that takes time to cook. There are tons of brands out there (steel cut or Irish can be really chewy and good!), but the Quaker Old Fashioned kind that comes in a tall cardboard tube is fine. You don't want the kind that comes in individual packets, regardless of any claims to have lower sugar. Okay? You can, however, make the old fashioned kind pretty quickly in a microwave. DH and I did this all the time...the directions are on the side of the container. I think it takes 3-4 mins. with milk in the micro. Yum!

However, there are TONS of things you can have for breakfast besides eggs, even in P1! You can find lots of ideas here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57532 (I hate eggs and never eat them alone, so I had to come up with other things to have for breakfast...other chickies helped us compile a thread full of ideas).

    Hope this helps!
  • I eat the Quaker Old Fashioned Oats almost every morning. I use a half cup of oats, a cup of water and cook for 5 minutes on medium in the microwave. Use a BIG bowl to cook in since it will boil over otherwise.

I top with Splenda, cinnamon and sliced banana but I used to use other fruits when bananas were not allowed. You will have to see what works without setting off cravings.

I've also heard that you can fix oatmeal in the crockpot overnight or fix it ahead of time and reheat it but since I'm just doing it for myself, this is easiest.
