This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.
Just a fly-by. Sandi: I wanted to tell you not to stress over one meal that wasn't OP. Eating Chinese once in a while won't immediately make you gain weight. None of us got to 300+ by eating one fattening meal. Throughout my loss so far, I've had about one meal a week that wasn't OP. It's been fine. Just get back on track with the next meal and you'll be fine. If you see some small gain right away it's more than likely the MSG...makes you retain water like crazy. It'll be gone before you know it.
Yippee! I just got a call from Women's Clinic and the phone call I got cancelling my surgery was a mistake! They are cancelling office visits because he won't be in the office that day, but he will be at the hospital! I'm SO relieved! It isn't like I'm looking forward to surgery - but it would have been August before I could get another week off! While part of the surgery is elective, the ovarian cyst ISN'T! That needs taken care of. So...back to stressing over getting all my work done by then!
Lilion - I'm so glad your surgery hasn't been changed - one stress at a time, please, universe!
2Cute - hope by now your husband is out of recovery.
My life and everything has been nuts this week. On a tight deadline for a manual for software that is still changing and has slipped into the timeframe for another project I'm responsible for. Got a number of screenshots this AM saying - here's the final pix you needed. Unfortunately, the screenshots contain features no one has told me about, so they aren't in the manual! Was supposed to be done at 10:30 today - yeah, right.
The project manager comes over to ask if I can replace the picture of a new sensor - the hand holding the sensor in the master pix is holding a pen. I said sure, went to the lab, and as the equipment failed, one by one all the engineers went to lunch. Dropped the PM an e-mail, saying when they got the equipment set up, I'd take the picture and drop it into the book.
My gym closed the lap pool last week for maintenance, so I took my regular water aerobics classes and jogged in the "river" (more like a creek) to get some cardio. But this week, there are no classes, and I've been working very late, so no exercise yet, and my body is very annoyed with me.
DD is on spring break, so I asked her to clean the bathroom - when I got home Monday night, she said it was done - the center of the floor was clean, but all around the edges - dust bunny central! And she moved all the bottles on the counter to one spot, cleaned the open area, and left the dirt where the bottles are! Now, she and I share this bathroom, and I think I'm not the maid as well as the breadwinner. Last night there was a real temper tantrum when I (quietly) pointed out that it wasn't done. You know, teaching someone else is harder than doing it yourself.
Well, gotta go. I got an e-mail on one of the features I was questioning.
Lilion - Glad to hear that scheduling nightmare has straightened itself out! Wow.
2Cute - Still holding you & DH in my heart & prayers.
Barbara - Hang in there. Even so/so is better than bad/verybad. We're creating new trends. Glad your starting to enjoy the class.
Terri - Glad I gave you a chuckle. I can't believe that guy will HAVE a job to come back to. He has absolutely zero credibility with subordinants & everyone else!
Sandi D - What they said - that one meal won't wreck things... don't tell, but we went to IHOP last night and I had some pancakes with my eggs - only ate half the cakes tho. ONWARD!!!!
Thin - I - I - I wanna be a mystery shopper! Sounds like too much fun to get paid for, but I bet there's plenty of paperwork, too. As for that 2 pounds, I guess there'll be no more IHOP! (It was the first IHOP visit in probably 16 years, so pancakes definately AREN'T a habit at least.) I'll get with it now!
Lesley - I'm with Lilion, I love the whole castle thing. I made it to Germany & Austria about 25 years ago, and I couldn't get enough of them. Castles and old churches, even little ones that would only seat 50-100 people, with the stone eisle worn by how many generations of worshippers?! We don't have anything of substance over here that lasts like that... caves maybe. We do have some cool caves.*** I dunno whats going on with hubby just now. At least a lot of stress has been removed by the farm actually falling through, the horses settling in at the new place, and by spending the last several days in the sunshine. I just need to figure out what reality really is, and then figure out what to do with it from there. It's about to take on a different shape, since we're headed out on the road again tonight.
Ruth, Michelle, Garnet, KristasMom, Joan, All my other friends & lurkers - Best wishes while I'm gone... who knows? I may be back in a night or two. But I'll be working on that 2x2. It's a kick in the pants that I needed, and I hope to succeed along with the rest of you! Right now, I need some things from the store for this next journey...
OOPS - SUE, you slipped one past me. I hear you on the "teaching is harding than doing it yourself"!!! Good luck with that bathroom. One summer my step-D came to spend with us and I told her I didn't care what chore she did, but she should pick one and be responsible for it. (She always claimed that I intentionally gave her the ONE chore she hated worst!! No matter what chore it was, it was the worst!) She shose the bathroom, and to her credit she did a good job on it. Once. She never lifted a finger again.... She no longer comes in to this house, so that works for me. Not the deal you want with your DD though, I'm sure.

Well, the dreaded WI results are here! 244.4. Up 2.6 lbs. Well, no one to blame but myself. I'm debating moving the slider to reflect me defeat...When it goes on fast, it generally comes off fast too so I expect it'll be down again next week. I'll think about it.
Sue: Your DD would HATE my house. My 11 yr old DS has had chores for years. 1) Pooper Scoop the yard daily. 2) Feed the cat. 3) Scoop the cat litter box daily. 4) Pick up his room 1 x per week. Now you'd think of those the feeding the cat and picking up his room would be the easiest and the ones he'd fuss less about. NOT! Hard to believe that my prissy little boy who is afraid to get dirt on his hands would prefer scooping poop to putting his toys away. Kids! I don't get them at all. He also doesn't mind cleaning bathrooms and his favorite part is scrubbing the toilet! Go figure.
Valerie: Have a good trip and I hope you get back to us soon. Try to remember the truck is not forever! Be safe!
Well all, I should try to actually accomplish something today. Maybe I'll take a nice walk this afternoon though...can't get to much exercise this week...gotta get under that 240 mark!!!
Hi Everybody~~I've been mia for a couple weeks and I miss you guys. I've really been down, and when I get like this I just kind of freeze up. I have a hard time just talking to anyone.
I found out a couple weeks ago that my sweet old kitty Spike has cancer in his jaw. The vet thought it was just molars, but upon further inspection they found the cancer. I'm just a basket case over this...he's given him no longer than 3 months, and I just sit and watch him and fret over his eating and worry whether he's in pain. He's having a hard time eating anything but smooth food, so I'm going to try another pain shot for him tomorrow--that usually perks him up for almost a week. He's just the sweetest boy. This is so hard.
I'm doing ok with everything--exercise is great, but I've only lost a couple pounds in two weeks. I don't understand how all this working out I do isn't helping me drop this weight a little faster. I think I need to cut back on the carbs--that seems to be what messes me up. I also need to do something about this night-time eating I do--nearly half my calories for the DAY are consumed after 11 pm. Although I did read today that as long as you stay under your daily calories your body doesn't know what time it's eating. Any input anyone?
2Cute--hope your dh is okay. That must have been a scare for you both.
Everyone else--I've missed you all and am going to try to get myself together. Count me in on the 2 x 2, also.
Sorry for not getting caught up on replies. There was supposed to be a quick meeting at church which didn't start on time and then wasn't quick. I was wiped out when I got home.
TOM is also kicking my butt the last couple of days. At least the hormone roller coaster has settled down. I just feel fat and blah.
I have to share this picture. Isn't this the cutest thing you have ever seen??? NO, its not mine. Its a pony baby that lives over close to mom. I fell in love with her though. Just look at that face!
I need to mop the kitchen floor before heading off to work. I think we're going to see our horses tonight! Have a good OP day!
Just checking in before work. Nothing exciting around here. Oh I thought I'd share this with you guys. Remember the husband of the fellow-employee that started to work for us and only lasted for three days and everyone thought had such a bad break? Well oleAlvin being the kind, caring peron that he is got him (the husband) an interview where he(oldAlvin) works. Alvin came in last night and said that he (Robert) had failed the interview and would not be getting the job. what did he do you ask? When asked why he was let go from his last position (I don't know if he was dumb enough to even mention the 3day stint, I wouldn't have) his answer was that he had too many conflicts with management!!! He thought he could do things better that they could and they wouldn't listen!!! Terri, don't you think you want to hire this guy???
Terri: OHHHH! I WANT HER!!! That SO makes me wish we had some land! I'm actually beginning to regret buying in town with our tiny yard. Our tiny, weed-filled yard! Between the two neighbors with the perfect yards! We actually broke down this past weekend and hired Chemlawn. I'm NOT happy about this. I'm a tree-hugger at heart and when we moved in I was so determined not to use chemicals in my lawn. I even composted my yard waste! But we just haven't had time to work with it and now it is a mess - nothing but chickweek and henbit and a dozen other horrible weeds. To the point where I finally said, "Fine! Poison my yard!" I agreed to use them for one year to get rid of the weeds and get some grass growing. I hope I haven't made a horrible mistake. Okay...I've rambled. I'm glad your emotions are back on an even keel! Maybe once TOM goes home things will look better!
Angela: Good to see you back! (No pun intended.) I have had back problems for years...always soft tissue, disk problems and nothing serious enough to justify surgery. But I've been off work and on heavy drugs a time or two so you have my sympathy! Still, been a while...so I'm glad to hear from you!
MTM: I'm so sorry to hear about your cat! It seems so unfair that we can grow to love something so much that lives so many fewer years than us. I hope his pain, and yours, is bearable. On the weight loss front, I don't really know what to suggest. I know some folks can't eat carbs and lose. That's really never been a problem for me though. But on the two pounds! (I found them! )
Barbara: You sneaked in while I was posting! I think the guy would fit right in with our department. Everyone here KNOWS they can do things better than the bosses...we're just smart enough not to say so! (But it's true!)
Well ladies - I was completely OP yesterday. Okay...I may have gone over on my points by one or two...but that's what flexies are for. And I walked .6 miles to and from work. And I did 11+ minutes on the Infernal Machine and then did some hand-weight work and some stretches and crunches. Feeling much better about myself today. Those 2.5 lbs are HISTORY! (That's the most determined-looking smilie we have!)
Must run. I have to average 4 decisions a day in order to not be too far behind when I go for my surgery May 1. So...less time to play than usual!
The last time I posted, I was feeling so stressed, I had actually taken money out of my wallet to buy some peanut brittle that they added to the snack machine on Monday. But first, I decided to post here - and, after I hit the Submit button, I put the money away.
I guess this support thing does work.
I have gotten the manual published - still have the online help to go, but I'm getting there.
Next week, the next Series of Water Aerobics starts - I'll be so glad. Somehow, I can't make myself skip a workout, if I paid for it up front! I take two classes - one hydrotoning and one regular aerobics - the hydrotoning can be a little hard on the knees, but it's really wonderful for the arms and back!
I thought I would just swim laps, but working til 7 makes it really tough to stop on the way home to work out, and I need a haircut, and once a week I go to the chiropractor. So last night, went to chiropractor, and looked at DH. He looked awful- well, decided not to work out. Instead, I put him to bed, and as soon as he fell asleep DD and I rounded up the trash and put it out, then walked the dog, and had a really good conversation, so I sez to myself, I sez, well, I'll swim Thursday night - until hubby wakes up, sees all his chores done, and says, "kid's going to spend the night with a friend tomorrow. Want to go to California Pizza?" Well, a side salad and their Thai spring rolls makes a good supper, and DD really hates their food, so, maybe I'll swim laps Friday.
After all, I have a challenge to meet!
Sue thats a NSV (non scale victory) not getting the peanut brittle! Little baby steps!
2Cute...you and your family are in my prayers!
I just needed to share a new snack item I discovered when shopping last night. The jello pudding cups that are only 2 pts for the fat free ones, you know the 6 pack ones in the dairy section, well they now have a sugar free one and its only 1 pt per cup and the chocolate ones are HEAVEN with a tablespoon of lite cool whip! And still only 1 pt!! I'm proud of myself for that find and also saving $80.42 off my grocery bill!!
