Default Gym Rant: No Employee Break Room...

i have a love/hate relationship with my gym.

love: price, location, scenery (hot guys!...i have a bf, but it just motivates me a bit) , cleanliness, etc..

hate: never enough towels, constantly advertisements for their tanning, protein shakes, etc....and last but not least....the employees eating in the main room of the gym! i have concluded that the employee must not have a break room because all their personal bags are lined up against the wall, and they are always eating (boston market, whole foods, and quiznos are nearby) in the main room.

am i ridiculous to think this is unacceptable at a gym? first of all, the cleanliness issue (for them). secondly, the food they eat is not always the best, which leads to....thirdly, the power of suggestion. yes, i am the kind of person who sees them eating mashed potatoes and i want some. now, i wouldn't be craving the potatoes if i hadn't seen them eating it! i know temptation is all around us (i keep the tv off for this reason), but i expect a gym to be a place where mashed potatoes and sandwiches are not LITERALLY in your face.

*end rant* i hope i didn't cause any cravings from this post.

That is very unprofessional. I work at an athletic facility which includes a fitness center and the only advertising you see is the giant gatorade slogan on the drink machine. Also, we are not allowed to eat at the front desk. It just looks bad and having your stuff everywhere. I would suggest leaving a comment in a comment box, but I'm afraid of what they would do if there really is no place to eat! That's terrible that their workplace can't provide even that.

No, you are not ridiculous. I'd complain or get another gym!

hey I used to work in a small gym.. therewasn't an employee lounge. We had to keep pur stuff in the back storage closet. As for food... we ordered food quite often but we would go to our managers office to eat it...we all thought it was not fair to our clients/members to be eating in plain view of them!!

I used to work at a Powerhouse Gym. We ate in our offices, but the smells still waffted through out the gym. We were pretty good about complying to members request in the comment box, the only problem. The manager didn't check the box very often.

I would definitely complain. I had an issue about my gym having people vacuuming right next to cardio machines during regular hours and after I complained they stopped doing it. The staff should know better that they shouldn't eat there, but maybe they just don't realize how bothersome it is.

That is kind of wrong. I have no clue where the employees at my gym eat but I have seen them walk in with McDonalds, BK, etc.. and thought it was kind of wrong. Atleast disguise it.
