Thumbs down weights for weightloss

HI everyone,
so far so good I have been walking everyday on my treadmill. I now want to incorporate some weight training into my routine...that is I want to do something about my flabby arms...I only exercize at home so I would only use tins of soup as hand weights, I not into going to the gym yet.

I still have lots of weight to lose so my question is whether itis beneficial to do some hand weights to tone my arms or should I wait until I lose some weight first?

Not sure what to do.

Hi Mygirl,

I have about 140 lbs to lose and I am currently using "Quickfix: Arms and legs" to incorporate weight training in to my routine. I use 5 lbs weights, but water bottles and soup cans also work. I have heard that it is better to start weight training sooner, rather than later, because you are less likely to be flabby as you lose weight. Also, strength training increases your metabolism and muscle mass. Please note that I haven't checked on this with my doctor....it's just what I have gathered from various message boards.

How long do you spend on your treadmill? I may want to start doing that.

Thanks and good luck!

- Kim

Default thanks for your response

Dear Kim,

Thanks for your response, I really appreciated the information. I have built up to 40 minutes a day on my treadmill. that is a lot for me considering that I hardly ever exercised at all 3 months ago.

All my best to you,

MyGirl

Default Upper Body Strength Training Videos!

Hello,

Just thought I'd pass on my two favorite upper body strength training videos.

Claudia Schiffer's "Perfectly Fit Arms" and Kathy Smith's "Lift Weights to Lose Weight". Both are very good and have worked wonders for me!

Have a Great Day!

Hi MY Girl, I just started weight training myself. I have been loosing on Slimfast for the past year and have always been pretty strong from farm work but I decided to add some weights to my excercise program. I use freeweights in my basement as I am fortunate enought to have them. My late husband was into weight lifting and I did learn a bit from him. Don't be upset if you don't seem to be loosing weight at first. Muscle weights much more than fat so you will notice your clothes fitting better before the scale shows a change. Muscle uses more calories so building muscle is like building a calorie burning furnace in your body Start light, add reps instead of weight when it gets too easy. This will help you not to injure youreself. Soup cans etc are a great way to start but eventually you will need to get a gym membership or a home gym. If you don't have a partner the gym is the better choice as you can get advice from the pro's there and it is much safer. Hope this is helpful.
