Question

  • Is there a specific thread that everyones diet tricks are listed? I am looking for ideas so maybe I can put together a bunch of ideas and come up with a diet I can actually live with, I have the will power of a fly, I cannot resist pizza and soda.

I have read through may posts but I was wondering if there were any specific places I could find everyones wonderful ideas.

    Thanks
    Debbie
  • Why don't you give us a little more information and we'll drum you up some ideas right here?
How tall are you? How much do you weigh? What do you like to do for activities? What do you like to eat?
  • Thanks, I am 5'2" and 155lbs, I am not too active, I run around after my 4 and 2 yr old. I eat on the run alot, I run from one office to another for work and then run with kids to playgroups and errands, so I am a junk food junkie, I do try and eat less of the bad stuff, I will order happy meals instead of a full meal, I try to eat salad pizza instead of regular pizza, just have a hrd time sticking to diet
  • I see a couple of very promising notes in your post. One is that you're not afraid of activity. Another is that you've already figured out how to eat less.
Since weight loss is all about using more calories than you eat ... you're almost there.
All orchestrated diets are actually one form or another of making sure the subscriber eats less. Portion control.
The "PERFECT DIET FOR DEBBIE" might just be watching what you eat and finding ways to be a little more active. Some folks can do just that. Are you looking for more stringent guidelines? A list of tips?
  • Thanks Susan, I need to be more strict, I have hypothryoid so I need to really be stricty in order to lose anything, tips would be great, then I need to motivation to stick to it for more than 1 day
  • Why don't you start a thread in the 'support' forum called something like ... "Tips please, Making a Diet for Debbie"
I'm going bra shopping, I'll catch up with you later.
  • Hi Deb, You can do this! You're active now with chasing the kids all day. But, you need to take better care of yourself. And you are training your kids how to eat right now! They are watching you and learning. So it's a good incentive to cut the junk food and teach them how to eat right! It takes a little more time to choose good, healthy food. And I know with 2 little ones it's hard to find time to take a shower! But planning is really the key! Atart a journal if you haven't already and plan your meals for a week. And it's ok to take the kids for fast food occasionally! Who doesn't want to play at McDonalds! But I have a calorie counter for all the fast food places. It helps me make good choices! Another tip is don't bring the junk food into the house! If it's not there you can't eat it! Substitute healthier things. And don't tell me it's for the "kids". You don't want to teach them to eat like that either! Yogurt, apples and applesauce, fruit, find good snacks for them too! I'm not saying nevr have another cookie!!! Just moderation! 90 % good food 10% goodies.

    You can do it!
  • Thanks for the pep talk, last night I went shopping and just bought healthy foods, so today I am going to try and stick it out. My kids love veggies and fruit, I need to learn from them, they get excited over broccoli and will always coose oranges over fries, lol. So I am on board as of today, I hope I can make it a day.
Yesterday I had my daughter take a full length pic of me, omg, that really has me motivated, I am thinking of printing it and carrying it around me. Thanks for your suppport

I have tried most every diet there is out there and the only one that has worked successfully for me (when I stick to it) is South Beach Diet. The first time I tried it, it lasted the entire summer until my kids went back to school. I got frustrated at that point trying to figure out how to feed them enough since they couldn't snack during the day at school to continue eating like I was. Hence, I gave up. This time though, I am doing it for me, not the whole family. They eat what I eat plus a little something extra to fill them up enough. Once you are on South Beach and learn the right combinations of things to eat, it becomes more than a diet, it becomes a way of life.

My father has thyroid issues, plus is a diabetic heart patient. His doctor has begged him to join me on South Beach but he is stubborn and set in his ways. He'd rather take the medications than lose the weight and not have to take them anymore. South Beach was written by a doctor for patients that he had that are just like my father. The first 2 weeks are the hardest, but the 2nd phase introduces things back into your menu and becomes more enjoyable.

I am now in the 2nd phase. I can have pizza - but it's either thin crust or whole wheat crust, loaded with veggies, and only a couple of pieces (I used to eat a LOT more of the pizza by myself). I can honestly say that I am full after just a couple pieces now though.

If you'd like to chat more about SBD, feel free to PM me.
  • We have a whole forum of South Beach stuff, Debbie and Katie. Please feel free to join us and share ideas.
  • I only just found the SBD section today. I will definitely be checking in to see what's going on in there and share ideas. Thanks for the invite!

  • Thanks for sharing the info, I will check out the forum. I did have a break through, I made it a whole day without a soda. I went shopping the other day and did not pick up any, last night we went out for dinner I actually ordered broiled fish and had WATER. Little baby steps.
  • Hi Debbie

Sounds as if you are off to a great start... one very positive thing I see is that you are already changing your thinking! Yay! You started off saying you can't give up junk food and soda... then start saying well maybe you CAN etc. Good for you! You have a great attitude and are also wanting to learn from other people's successes... I'm sure you can do it!

Sounds as if you are pretty active, so that's another good indication. And neat that your kids like veggies... yay! And those are not "baby steps" you are taking but rather GIANT ones in the right direction! Keep it up!!! yay for you. I also recommend checking out some of the challenges here and becoming involved; they are great motivators! And there are all kinds of them so you can undoubtedly find one which suits you. If not LOL do what I did and START one!
