Kathy Smith fans...which workout is a "must have"?
Okay all you Kathy fanatics, I want to hear from you!!
I'm looking to buy more KS videos to add to my collection. I have several that are old and outdated, but still good ones! Anyone recommend any that fall under the GREAT category - are a "must have" and you got incredible results? Anything you can't go without and keep coming back to?
I'd like something fairly recent with aerobics and weight training. I have Project:YOU right now and love it!
So far, I've found these that interest me.....
The Rules Of Fat Burning (2002)
Fat Burning Breakthrough (2002)
Personal Trainer-Total Body (1999) no weights
Peak Fat Burning (1996) no weights
Weight Loss Workout (1991)
The weights vs. no weights is not a deal breaker, neither is how old it is. Others not on the list are very welcome too! I just want an effective and rocking workout or two to add to my collection. I would love to hear what people like and dislike. It would help me choose the best ones for me. Thanks!!
I was way into Kathy when I first lost weight several years ago and discovered the power of workout videos. Kathy's Step Workout (I believe it's from the early 90's) was awesome. I did it all the time. Because I was such a beginner at the time, I really got to see myself improve the more I did that.
I also like her Timesaver Cardio, a good floor workout. I still do it from time to time, but I need to turn the sound off and listen to music. The "soundtrack" can get irritating. It's pretty clear that the editors needed to boost the chattering that was going on so they enhanced some things. But it's a solid workout (two 20-minute workouts actually, that you can do together or alone).
The Latin Rhythm Workout is pretty good too. It's not as intense, but it has a similar format to the Cardio Timesaver (two 20-minute workouts).
And I have Lift Weights to Lose Weight. That was my introduction to weight training. It has separate lower and upper body workouts (each 20 minutes). It's good!
I'm also doing Project You! and I would say the intensity of these workouts is simlar to those.
I also have Kathy's Step Workout and really like it. The steps are not too complicated but the workout is really good.
I also have the Timesaver Cardio, Timesaver Lift Weights to Lose Weight and Rules of Fat Burning. Both the Timesaver videos are really good and easy to fit into your schedule.
The Rules of fatburning I just recently got off ebay and found that it is a "collection" of some of her other videos. It has the first 20 minute workout from Timesaver Cardio and also has both upper and lower body workouts from Lift Weights to Lose weight. The other segments are also from other workouts but I don't know their names. One is a kickboxing routine of 15 minutes (on the short side), another is jump roping for 17 minutes as intervals which is rather intense! Last, is one more interval segment which is more typical aerobics but on the intense side also. All in all they are good workouts when you combine them. The downside is there is no real warm up, cool down or stretching in this collection. If you don't mind doing your own warm up, cool down or stretch, it's a pretty good and intense workout.
Thanks so much! I've been reading reviews of the videos you mentioned and I have to say, the Rules of Fatburning sounds like you're really getting your "bang for your buck". I love the fact that the segments are taken from previous videos and you can pick and choose (sort of like Project:YOU but without the strict schedule). And yes, it has mixed reviews because of the lack of warm up and cool down, but I can get passed that. Lack of ab work bothers me a little, but no biggie. I think I'll buy it! Thanks.
I also went ahead and bought Fat Burning Breakthrough for a whopping $4.27 (including shipping!) on half dot com. It had rave reviews and looks really great. I don't think I can go wrong at that price.
Fatburning Breakthrough is a good one! It is a step workout with some weightwork and abs included. I enjoy it a lot.
Lift Weights to Lose Weight 2 is a great all-over workout. I think you would find it challenging. I also like the Timesaver. The Latin workout is wayyyyyy fun for a light day. And, you may want to check into Moving Through Menopause if you are approaching that neighborhood. It is one of my favorites from my earliest days of video exercise. Do not picture a bunch of little old ladies! She gives you a good workout.
My favorite is without a doubt Project You. The production is top notch and the instruction is excellent. I went through the rotation and had great results. That was about a year ago. I still use the owrkout in the set all time with my regular excersises, especially Power Push and the 20 minute yoga program. The upper and lower body weights and the full body circuit are also excellent, excellent programs. This set, for me, has it all.
I really like Aerobox and I think it is coming out on DVD really soon. Deep Discount DVD shows a new one called cardio knockout and I think that both Lift Weight to Lose weight are being released again as well on one disc along with another older one.
Just have to put in a plug for my fave KS videos... Funtional Fitness: Lower Body Firming (hello glutes, howdy hamstrings!), and New Yoga (a challenging, toning, yet relaxing program).
Least fave: Flex Appeal Belly Dancing, didn't feel like it did a thing for me.
Least fave: Flex Appeal Belly Dancing, didn't feel like it did a thing for me.
That's because Kathy doesn't belly dance properly. She is wonderful at strength training and step aerobics...but she is definitely NOT a dancer. Ansuya should have taught the video, not KS.
I just wanted to chime in here -- the only KS video I have is Timesaver Cardio, but I really enjoy it, and it's an easy way to squeeze in a workout if you have limited time. I've done it so many times that I could probably do the first 20-minute routine in my sleep! "Out out in in!!!"
The DVD I have includes a short stretch sequence as well which I am not a fan of. I have some other videos by Minna Lessig and I LOVE those (they are harder than Kathy, but they're really fun and effective).
Thanks everybody! Wow, as you can see, I haven't been around for a while. I need to change my ticker and get back into the swing. Great suggestions. I will definitely look into the Timesaver Cardio and Minna Lessig. I found Turbo Jam to be my fave and have almost every DVD. I always rotate with a Kathy from time to time and still love her!! Thanks again all!
If you really want a challenge, get her "Kathy Smith: Cardio Knockout (2006)" dvd on amazon. The workout she pairs up with Michael Olajide is just freakin' unbelievable with jump rope & air boxing training circuits!
