Reason: discouraged
I am not over 60, but I am the moderator here, and I wanted to ask a few questions. How tall are you? What sort of exercise regime are you on? What clothing sizes (tops and bottoms) are you currently in? What sort of plan are you doing eatingwise? The reason I am asking, is that maybe 160 is a pretty good weight for you, and your body is trying to tell you that.
If you are petite, where you maybe actually could/should lose another 10 pounds, maybe by knowing what you are doing, I could help you to try things that could break your plateau and get things moving again.
First of all congrats on your third baby coming soon.
I am medium framed and I'm calorie counting. Approximately 1000-1100
calories a day. Being that I'm older my metabolism works a lot slower. I also play with the calories that one day I'll eat more than usually and than back to regular calories.
I wear size 14 slacks and large top. I walk daily. I know I just have to be patient and plug away.
Hello, weight. I'm also on the other side of 60 & losing wt this time is very slow. My Dr agreed....saying it's possible to do....but the body is slower & same with losing wt....slow.I'm doing it different, eating healthy & trying to keep calorie count a bit higher than I used to.
Just a thought....there's a lot of thinking out there, that eating too little will send body into starvation mode.....thinking it has to hold on to every pd.Have you tried eating more for a wk? Then seeing if it helps? Good luck.Pat
I'm not over 60...but my suggestions to speed up metabolism apply to those of any age. Try adding in some serious weight lifting 2-3 times a week. The more muscle, the more calories your body is burning. Also, make sure you get in a LOT of protein (preferably at least 20% of your daily intake of calories, if not more as you can manage). Protein will help nourish your muscles. And how long did it take you to lose those 18 lbs? It's taken me almost 5 months now to lose these last 14 lbs. Yes that seems a little slow and I've nothing like age to blame it on. Sometimes your body is just slow to lose and being over 60 may have nothing to do with it.
Thanks girls for your info.Patce you are absolutely right. I'm trying to increase the calories, but it seems than I feel to full. but also trying to eat ofter maybe this will help...hope...hope...who knows if this will work but its worth the try started the calorie count June/05 starting weight 178 and today 160 so 9 months later., not that great of a accomplishment but I'll take it.
Starting today I'm adding more protein, as far as lifting weight... that a no... no... because of my back and heart condition. Pretty much all the exercising I get is a lot of walking, climing stairs etc..
Another note to add here-if you are going to increase your calorie count, do so slowly so your body can adjust. If you are currently at 1000-1100 a day, go to 1100-1200 a day for 2-3 weeks. See how that goes, and then maybe up it to 1200-1300 a day after that. You are used to eating very little, so you don't want to jump the calories up too quickly.
What sort of a heart and back condition do you have? Weight training does not have to be really heavy weights to be effective. There are some videos out there geared towards older people, and they use light hand weights. (1-3 pounds.) In a lot of cases, people with back problems are encouraged to strength train, because it strengthens the bones and the back, and the pain is lessened as a result.

I have this week increased my calorie intake to 1200-1300. I'm going to do this for 3-4 days then switch back. I have no idea if this will work, but I've done a lot of reading on different forms and many say that this is the way to go. this way the body should not go into starvation and hold on to the weight I feel very full when I eat this much. also what is the latest one should eat after supper.....there's different opinion on that too.... confusing or what....others say to eat every 2 hours...

Most articles and studies out there, plus information from my dietician and personal trainer will tell you that women should not go below 1200 calories a day regardless of age or any other factors. It's just too low for what your body needs and it could kick it into starvation mode.
For myself...I eat brfast(oatmeal)...early, as I have probs sleeping...then 3 hrs later, have another small amt...maybe fruit or egg whites.
Lunch is 3 hrs after that...at noon, then at 2,I have fruit or cheese.....just a light snack & something to drink...soda,milk or tea. That holds me till dinner at 5-5 30.After putting supper in Fitday...I decide to have a snack or not...according to cal count.Could be ice cream,popcorn...whatever sounds good.Hope to lose 20pds by 1st of yr. Good luck,PatC

I am 64. I eat three meals and 2-3 snacks per day, about 1500 calories. I keep my metabolism and blood sugar levels even doing this. I do not eat white flour, sugar, etc. and simple carbs. I am hypothyroid. I've lost 4 pounds this month. I follow a combination of WW Core and South Beach. I've never felt better.

Congrats on your success, you have done wonderful. How long have you been doing this? what do you mean by simple carbs, are these vegetables? I guess my will power isn't as strong as yours because I have to have something sweet. But I've lost 20 lbs would like to lose 20 more and than just maintain.
you must look great that's a lot of pounds you took off. I am overwhelmed.

WOW to Susan in Colo & Susan in VA.... fantastic stats ladies....so you're both qualified to advise us.Has exercise figured in your loss? That's a hard thing for me. Do have a glider, but physical probs makes other ecercise hard. I can walk, but not fast...as I have exercise asthma...so don't know if it's worth walking slower.Have had shoulder & knee surgery & that limits motion. So far, I've lost 20pds just by cutting back.
Now starting on next 20pds & need to lose 60 total, so another 40 to go.Tying to eat healthy as my main way of eating.I'm lucky that I don't have much of a sweet tooth....but still have to watch my calories where beans & taters are concerned. Thanks all for posting in this thread....need all the help I can find & looks to me like you are just what we need.Pat
