If you feel like you are ready, DO IT!!! I sometimes use 3 pound weights. I don't know if I would ever go to 5 pounds, but if you feel like your joints can handle it, I'd say listen to your body!!!

thanks.

i think i can totally handle the 3 pounders...but i'm not sure about the 5 pounders. i use 5 pounds during my regular weight lifting sessions and i can feel the burn with them. i wouldn't want to be doing the watp moves with them.

who knows though. maybe in a few months i'll be able to.

Heavier weights are for strength training...not for cardio workouts.

I want to advise all of those doing WATP and other Leslie Sansone workouts not to use heavy weights during the walking portions. The Walk Away Weights are 2 pounds...and if that gets easy, I would say that you can safely move to 3 pound weighted balls-but NO LARGER for the walking workouts. Please-you are going to subject yourself to injury if you do this.

Strength training is strength training, and cardio is cardio-and you can only combine the two in safe situations. You should not be graduating to heavy weights while you are kicking and knee-upping around with your arms up, down, out and everywhere.

If you want to advance-I would recommend going for her longer videos-the 3 miles, 4 mile, and I believe on her website she has a new 5 mile dvd. *I think*
If you want to go heavier with the weights-then do it in one of her strength training videos instead. Leslie's "Shortcuts" dvds are wonderful.

I also want to add that ankle weights are NOT to be used at all in aerobics either, or for powerwalking. They can cause injury as well. Ankle weights are also only to be used in strength training workouts-not cardio.
