I was wondering if anyone has any experience w/ this?
When I wait too long to eat, I get really out of it-sweating a lot, naseaus ( can't spell today), problems with dizziness when looking up, problems talking, concentrating..I probably look like I'm drunk. Then I get absolutely ravenous... I eat ( more than I normally would), then in about half an hour to an hour it goes away and I'm fine...
Am I the only one? I figured this would be the place to ask since we're all well experienced in the side effects of eating.
Sure do. I even failed a glucose tolerance test once. The absolutely essential tool for me is eating more frequently and making sure I get enough protein. The little bits I've read about GI diets and theories are quite informative.
My sis and I both have this. We also get irritable beyond belief. We've both been tested and come back normal, but I am positive we dip more often than others. Regular healthy snacks definetly help even this out. I keep a box of raisin bran in my truck so I can grab a healthy bite whenever its needed.
Thanks so much! A lot of ppl I've talked to kind of disregard it, but unless you've experienced it, it's hard to relate. I also get really irritable, like it's a chore to do anything ( wait in line, talk to ppl).
I've started to keep stashes of raisins, nuts, cereals at work and in my own truck, or if I have to, I'll eat a protien bar...
I suspect it may be low blood pressure, or at least a component. When I was very young I underwent a lot of tests for my heart ( mitral valve prolapse) and they found out I had low blood pressure ( 80 over 54 ). I eat to keep it a little higher now...
Thanks for your replies. I am happy that I am not alone, nor am I going out of my mind.
Key is regular healthy snacks - a bit of protein keeps blood sugar level longer. A piece of fruit and some cheese. Avoiding the whites - flour, sugar, rice, anything that is processed like that - helps as well.
My husband is diabetic and was able to tell me a lot about protiens and carbs and what it does to his own blood sugar levels. For a long time i saw our dietary needs as so different, but they aren't all that much..
Now that I am looking at carbs more, I am angered that there are 33 g. of carbs in a little box of raisins! I love raisins.
I guess I'll just ditto the things everyone else said... eat frequent, small meals and keep protein snacks handy, and sugary ones for emergencies. I've just rolled over from low blood sugar to high blood sugar and the tricks are really the same. Good luck!
Hey Optical, I do the exact same thing and also have mitral valve prolapse along with low blood pressure. I'm very careful of not letting my blood sugar get too low now but I remember the time (not too long ago) when I'd only have to look at my husband and he'd know we'd have to stop to eat or get a snack, lol. I would get very irritable otherwise, to say the least!
The MVP is such a pain, I can't even go to the dentist without taking a handfull of anitbiotics before and after a simple cleaning! Oh well, my father ended up with a heart infection ( he has the same problem along with my sister) after seeing a new dentist who didn't insist on this precaution and we came very close to losing him.
Wow..that's crazy that there's somebody who is totally in the same boat as me. I think it's also one of those things where at first I thought it was just once in awhile, but now I realize that its' just the way it is. I keep stuff in my purse now, since this seems to happen at wal mart more than other places, and when I do buy something to eat ASAP, lines are always long....
I dont' have to take that many antibiotics before dental procedures, but my dentist is aware of my condition(s) and the treatments for them... but it is something I'll def. look into, as to why I _don't_ have to take antibiotics..
Hmmmm... food for thought ( is the best kind of food.)
