Default J-A-B (a "new" food!)

I came up with a neat idea I'd like to share with you all! At least I think it's a new idea, I've never heard of anyone doing it before.

You know how when you're cooking something and you take a taste? And then another, and another (well, you HAVE to make sure it tastes good, right?)? I mean, honestly, you can "taste" your way through a whole passel of calories, but they don't count, right? "Cause you're standing up, or 'cause it's too small to count or... or... well, they just don't count, ok???

Well, from now on, what I'm going to do is record all those tastes as JAB food! FitdayPC allows me to create a "Custom Food" -- JAB is now a new food for me!

JAB stands for Just A Bite!

To make things easy, every JAB = 25 calories and 10 sodium. No other nutrients. Ok, in reality, some JABs will be higher, some lower. I'm just going to use 25 for simplicity. Knowing that every "taste" costs me 25 calories (and 10 sodium) will be enough to make me ponder whether I "need" that taste.

I'll also record a JAB if I, say, take a bite of my kid's sandwich or snag one of my husband's fries (he's bad!) or sample my friend's delectable dessert. Knowing it'll cost me will be enough, I think, to make me settle for just one JAB -- and in some cases, make me decide it's NOT worth it! 25 calories for one french fry?

Just one caution, the JABs really do have to be tiny, like a teaspoonful. A level teaspoonful. Half a cup crosses over into serving territory, even if you can fit it all in your mouth at once (ewwww)!

Anyway, that's my plan! I know it may not work for everyone (I fully understand it could cause some folks to lose control, so it may not be a good idea for them), but I think it'll be ok for me. If you like the idea, feel free to add JAB to your food list.

So, what do you think of JABs?

Wow, you know, that's a good idea. Because I'm a nibbler. I pick my way through just about every meal I cook, lol.

Thanks for the idea

Had a JAB french fry today and boy was it good! Not good enough to waste another 25 calories on, but I sure did enjoy it!

I wish in FitdayPC I could write a memo on the Food Log page to remind myself what the specific JAB was, but I'll just record it in the corresponding Diary page. After all, i'm not planning to have so many JABs in a day that I lose track of what they all are!
