OK. Sorry for bringing this up a week later. . .But, on American Idol last week, did anyone else wish Paula had not told Mandisa, "You have such a pretty face" or something similar? Why couldn't have just said, "You are so pretty?" Slam. Paula was acting weird anyway, so it wasn't the oddest thing that happened.
Hey...
I have been thinking about that all week too.....I agree...why couldn't she just say "Mandisa, you are so beautiful"....the second Paula said that.....my husband and I both looked at each other in horror. Its just like that sickening statement....'you have such a pretty face, if only you'd lose some weight". That was just uncalled for...she could have said it so much better. Like you said though...Paula has been weird lately. I missed last week's results show but everyone was ranting about Paula's weirdness...saying she must have been drunk or high or something.
I think Mandisa is absolutely beautiful and she is definately the best singer out of all the ladies...(in my opinion). I see in her American Idol profile, she talks about how one of the biggest struggles in her life has been her weight. She may struggle with it but she doesn't show that when she performs...she looks so beautiful, strong, and confident......GO MANDISA!!!!!

I agree! I didn't catch her performance last week, so missed Paula's comment. I hate "that" comment. It's more like a slap in the face to a big girl. Anyways, I did see her last night. She sounded perfect. And she is gorgeous, has the "it" factor, so confident and yet humble. It'll be interesting to see how far she can get. At least top 3. I know Ruben won 1 year, but big guys just don't seem held to the same standards that big girls are held to. IMO.
I heard it immediately as well. I was so pissed. Every other girl that night was simply referred to as beautiful but Mandisa get's the "face" comment. I could've slapped Paula.
Yep - I thought the same thing and cheered how gracefully Mandisa reacted with a smile. Paula is definitely 'medicated' at times on the show - but majorly so last night!
I missed that comment ~ it did seem that Paula was acting so loopy that night.
I keep hoping that Mandisa will win ~ kind of a symbol to me that there is hope for big girls. (My husband would probably faint ~ he is such a fataphobe.)
I noticed, and I about screamed.... I told my husband that the most insulting thing you can say to a fat woman is "You have such a pretty face..." and that a statement like that is usually followed by "...if only you could lose some weight" I just want to slap people who say that crap.
No matter what my weight: I AM A BEAUTIFUL, CONFIDENT, STRONG WOMAN - inside and out. I am so glad that Mandisa has made it this far and shown that fat women are not lazy and unmotivated. She is truly a role model for the other beautiful, confident, strong women out there.
I noticed it, too, but I didn't think it was all that horrible. It's true--she does have a beautiful face (and hair--her hair always looks nice). However, she is in an industry where TOTAL overall appearance really does matter, whether anyone likes it or not. If it were a friend saying it to her, I would find it annoying, but as an entertainment industry judge, I don't fault Paula for it. I think she was actually trying to point out that she IS beautiful despite Simon's previous comments about her weight.
Yeah, Ruben made it, but for big guys, sometimes it's like they're "big cuddly teddybears" if they're big, whereas for women, we're just fat--lucky us Also, as much as I hate to bring it up, I think it would be even less acceptable if she was white I mean, look at Brenna--I would never call her skinny, but no one ever commented on her weight, even when she wore tight clothes. It was socially acceptable for her. However, remember the blonde twins that Simon tore apart in last year's auditions? They were tall and blonde and weighed like maybe 160, and he told them they needed to lose weight. Just another observation...
I heard somewhere that Paula is usually on pain killers since she had surgery on her back. I think that may account for some of her loopiness
