Thought I would stick us into a new thread this morning since we are down on page 2. It is going to be another nice day here, but I have a blasted cold again so I am just trying to take it a little easy.
I opened a can of paint for the countertops and it was a solid mass, so that job will have to wait until Saturday when I can get a quart of the color at Lowes. I am going to try and touch up the cabinets today if I feel like it. They are bright white so get dirty and stain fairly easily. That's better than what they were, black! Everything in this kitchen was black except the appliances, which were 1970's and that icky harvest gold color. I like the blue walls, white appliances and white cabinets with the blue countertops much better. I would love new ones, but it would cost us about $10,000 and I am not going into debt for new cabinets and countertops.
I got my candles last night and they are so pretty and smell so nice. I got a couple cinnamon ones that I am not too sure about, but will have to use them anyway. I really like the smell of cinnamon and use Airwick cinnamon smelling fragrance in my living room, but these smell more pumpkin pie like, heavier I think. The striped candle I bought for my downstairs bathroom goes great with the striped accessories. I am not burning that one, even though it does smell nice. I have a pear jar candle in that bathroom. I bought a cut glass candle shade and a white candle for the extra bedroom in gardenia I think it is and it smells nice. My favorite is the blackberry vanilla that goes in my hall bath though.
I guess I better hit the bricks running ladies and get some work done!
Good Evening, Flowers! I went to WW tonight and lost 5#s! NO ONE was more surprised than I was! I'm not sure how, but I will take it . . . I even stepped on the scale twice to make sure. It was another quiet day at school; I'm kind of waiting for the other 'shoe to fall.'
Beth called tonight and Kolby has Influenca A, which I guess is supposed to be the worst kind. The whole family is on antibiotics hoping no one else comes down with it. Thank you day care!
'Gma' -- Talking about your candle scents is making me hungry! I hope your cold is better; my mom always said a cold lasts a week if you do nothing and 7 days if you doctor yourself. What do you supposed has happened to Maggie? I keep thinking she will surprise us and pop in one of these days.
Hope you all have a nice evening and a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow!
Good morning all! Looks like rain here sometime today. The clouds have rolled in. I kept the car today and boy what a mess out by the plant. There is a huge oil refinery out there and they have shut down production to do some sort of big maintenance project. They hired 1500 temp workers and boy what a mess with traffic. They have cops out there directing that don't know how to do it properly so everything is backed up and in every direction. We came in the back way, but Jack said it wouldn't be bad going out...WRONG!!! I sat for about 5-10 minutes trying to get onto the main street so I could get on the interstate.
It is almost Soccer again, starts first week in April so we are gearing up for that. Hope the weather continues to warm up. The first practice is the Monday my sister is here so I think we will take her to the practice then go to the casinos as Jack has a holiday Tuesday (city gets holiday for MLK's death) I think it is funny the city is trying to take back some of their benefits including their two floating holidays and what they can do with their sick days, but boy that memorial holiday will stay put that is for sure. I'd like to know how come they don't make Elvis's birthday and death holidays, he lived and died here too and did a heck of a lot more to help this city out than cause riots about garbage collectors. Stupid guilt is what it is and pressure from the powers that be!
I guess I better go and get started on my day. I have a lot of errands I didn't get to do yesterday afternoon because Jack had to work late again.
**I am like Jean, hope Maggie checks in with us soon, sure would like to hear from her.**
Just a quick note to say 'Hi' to all. Just got back from a very early morning run to the Air Base. Needed to renew my ID and had heard about long lines. Well, we got there before they opened the doors at 9AM and were first in line. Hooray that's done for another 4 years. Got to the Commissary early, too, and that was another good deal. There and back by Noon....not bad.
Faye: That sounds like some kind of traffic jam....hate those. Going to the Casino with your sister sounds like a good idea...she should enjoy that.
Jean: Wowee!!!! Congratulations! That is a great lose, especially coming off a vacation. Maybe you need more vacations!
Good Afternoon! It is raining in my corner of the world and will freeze if it gets much colder. I'm on my way to make a much needed grocery list and head for the store. Bob has a late appointment at the office so supper will be something quick since I have bell choir tonight.
I have no secret for the 5#s . . . if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. I know that it is most likely due to getting back in a routine post-vacation. I have to admit I haven't walked in a while nor have I been counting points.
'Gma' -- The older I get, the more I hate getting stuck in traffic! I'd be much happier with Elvis holidays than MLK . . . sorry if I offended anyone!
Does your sister have grandchildren? My mother always enjoyed talking about the time Beth was playing T-ball and a little girl on 2nd base was dancing around. She had to go to the bathroom and finally yelled at her coach who sent a runner in for her. The port-a-pot was behind 3rd base so everyone knew where she went. It's fun to watch the younger kids, but sometimes I wish the parents would stay home!
Gloria -- I like to be 'first' so I don't have to stand in line too. We're ready for another trip to Maui . . . maybe in a couple years.
I need to keep moving. Have a relaxing evening and a terrific Thursday tomorrow!
Good early morning girls! I am up with coughing this morning so thought I would post. My other thread had nada all day yesterday so I just set it up quickly. I think we are supposed to have thunderstorms today so I suppose anytime I sit down I will have the animals in my laps because they don't like it. It is 68 right now though so I wonder if we are going to have tornado watches today and I imagine the satellite will go out. Just one of the things to you have deal with having a satellite, but cable goes out a lot too and to tell the truth I am saving about $50 a month so I am not complaining. Besides, I don't watch a lot during the day. The Nanny from 9-10, two episodes then NYPD Blue at 1 PM.
Gloria: I hate having to go to get my ID. Last time we were there early and still sat for at least 2 hours because they had some glitch somewhere in cyberspace and couldn't log on to something they had to have to retrieve some kind of info! I was down to the wire so we had to stay besides Jack has to take a day off work to do it.
Jean: My sister has 2 biological granddaughters, 17 and 16 three step grandchildren 23, 4,2 and a great step granddaughter 6, none of whom she sees much or is close to. Her 16 year old is a soccer phenom and plays for the Notre Dame youth league and won a scholarship to a private girl's school in Minnesota but didn't want to leave home so I know she would enjoy T's practice. Good thing, games are now at 10 for his age, bad thing, games are at 10 for his age! It isn't so early, but finding a parking place is going to be near impossible. They have various ages going on all at the same time and a small parking lot. I know that people have to park on the residentual side streets and walk and that is quite a hike from the fields. Oh and BIG congrats on the weight loss. I must have been snoozing!
I got the paint for the countertops and hope to get started on them today. I have a lot of cleaning to make up though so I have to juggle all that today and try and catch up. I bought myself a couple books and so I am going to "treat" myself to a chapter, then do a cleaning or painting job then another treat another cleaning, etc to spur myself on. I just still feel crummy and am going to plan "B" which is to take allergy meds and see if that helps instead. Jack is stiffling around and he says he thinks his is allergies so maybe mine is too.
Better get going girls. Jack will be up and around in about 10 minutes.
Good Evening, Flowers! It was a nice sunny day in my corner of the world. Bob has declared that spring is officially here since he saw four robins when he got home from work. He was outside hosing out the live trap and they flew into our yard from the cat hater's yard. Bob had the live trap set hoping to catch a possum. This morning 'Chester', the neighborhood tom cat, was in it. He was one unhappy camper and now resides on a farm!
'Gma' -- It sounds like you had a busy day if you got your painting all done. I keep finding nail holes in the mop boards that need to be filled from when they laid the laminate flooring over a year ago. It seems like there is always something that needs to be fixed, cleaned, painted, etc. I know once MIL comes back for the summer I won't get any help from Bob because she will have a list for him to do. Poor guy. It's too bad your sister isn't closer to her grandchildren; I grew up with my grandparents in the same town and even though my parents visited quite often, it just wasn't the same for my kids. I hope the allergies are better!
I need to figure out what I am wearing tomorrow so better get moving. Have a fantastic Friday; I'm ready for a weekend!
Good morning girls! We got a nice big thunderstorm yesterday and like I said it knocked out the satellite, unfortunately when I had the tv on for the only program of the whole day!
I got a lot done yesterday, painted all the countertops, downstairs vacuuming and upstairs dusting and cleaning bathrooms so now all I have is the mopping downstairs and the upstairs vacuuming, which I probably won't get to until tomorrow as I am keeping the car and having lunch with my dd today.
The phone rang last night and my dh answered and was talking to someone. Come to find out it was my dgs. I got on the phone with him (we haven't seen him since Christmas) and I said hi and he said hi and said, "What questions do you want to ask?" I told him he had called me so he should be asking the ????. He just giggled so I asked him if he was excited about soccer starting and he said yes. I told him that was the only question I had and laughed so he started laughing and said, "Well, you coud ask me how is school." So I did that so it was this back and forth thing with him giving me ?? to ask him. We had this discussion about where to eat when we go to the movies next week and he was being silly about going early in the morning and I said there wouldn't be any restaurants open that early and he said, Waffle house. o I told him no way, that place made me sick. That gave him an open door. He got on this diarrhea kick and his mom says he is in that toilet humor stage about everything poo or vomit or whatever. BOYS! He also started making squeaking noises like a mouse over the phone and said their was a mouse in the phone line and just laughed and laughed. He really gets a kick out of teasing me about being afraid of rodents. His mom says he is reading everything he can get his hands on now include signs on the road, which drives her nuts. We are going out to dinner and to a movie with them Tuesday evening I guess. Boy they sure grow up fast. He just had his First Grade orientation.
Jean: I bet that cat was pretty mad! What does Bob want a possum for? Is he eating your flowers or something?
You all have a great weekend. I need to run upstairs and get dressed so I can take Jack to work.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun is shining brightly and it is a beautiful day at 60 degrees! However, they are predicting a winter snow storm starting Sunday night and into Monday . . . I'm hoping for a late start rather than another 'no school' day that we'll have to make up. I'm doing a happy that it is Friday and the weekend has begun!
'Gma' -- Boy, you have been a busy gal! You are definitely ready for the white glove inspection! Do you live quite far from T that you haven't seen him since Christmas? For some reason I thought you lived in the same area. I'll take a mouse any day over a snake! :shudder: The possum will eat the dry cat food if we don't bring it inside after dark. Bob is afraid it will go under the deck and have babies this spring. We plan to transfer the 3 female cats to a farm in a couple weeks. The last thing I need is three batches of kittens to antagonize the cat haters even more. The 'moms' won't go near the live trap but the new kittens will and that is a sad sight to watch. The cat haters aren't above reporting us to the police (for letting ferrel cats run wild) and then we would be fined. We are supposed to license our inside cat(s), which we have never done either.
I see that email is coming in, so will quit and see what I've been missing there -- have a wonderful weekend!
Good morning gals! I am up and about early again this morning with the sniffles. I do have a lot I want to get done this weekend though.
Yesterday became a totally wasted day as I went with dd to lunch then Jack and I had a date night and went to dinner and then to see Failure to Launch, which is really funny. So, today I have a couple cleaning jobs I didn't get done and I want to start touching up the kitchen cabinets. We also have to do some repasting of the wallpaper in the upstairs bathroom as I never could find enough time to get Jack to help me get it stripped, sanded and painted, sigh .
Jean: We only live about 6 miles from Thomas, but they are pretty busy and get tied up so they don't have time. I don't think cats have to be licensed here as they never do it when you take them in for shots etc. We have a new neighbor who has a big dog who barks a lot, so that is becoming a pain already. We have one in our row of condos at the opposite end they starts in every night around 2 (I think maybe she works nights and comes in around then or something.) I don't know why people want big dogs in condominiums. The blacks here prefer pitbulls for some dumb reason. I think they are ugly and just mean. I refuse to take Fortune out when any of them here are out walking their dogs because I think they are way to unpredictable.
I guess I should do the downstairs chores and maybe read a book for a little while until Jack gets up. Have a great weekend.
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's been a beautiful day in my corner of the world! However, the weatherman says it will start raining tomorrow evening and turn to snow during the night. We shall see . . . in Iowa anything is possible! I've been doing laundry and fixed a big batch of sloppy joes this afternoon. I have a good friend whose husband just died and she will have family and friends visiting over the weekend. He was only 66 . . . too young!
'Gma' -- Bob has a runny nose and a tickle cough . . . he's trying to wean himself off the Prednisone also. I think the P. makes him snore louder than normal! Last night he was in bed before I got there and he sounded like an old bear with a sore paw . . . I'd touch him and he'd be quiet for a few seconds, then start in again. He even falls asleep in front of the TV and snores sitting up, which he never used to do. I know how busy young families can be. We live a little over an hour from both kids but the other sides of the family live closer so we always call before we plan to go over to make sure they will be home. Trying to get everyone together at the same time is a major challenge. We have alot of pit bulls here . . . the police shoot to kill if the dog gets between them and the owner (Mexicans) and it is the attack mode. I'm with you in that I don't know why anyone would want a big dog! "Bob", the great dane, is on borrowed time and we keep hoping he will be gone soon. That's not very nice, but he has more ailments than most humans do.
I have laundry ready to fold and put away so need to keep moving. Have a nice evening and a special Sunday!
Good Sunday morning everybody! I had one of my weird nightmares so I just decided to get up. It is warm and sticky here this morning. We are supposed to get more thundershowers, but don't know if we will or not.
DD, SIL and grandson came over last night to get our car dvd player and they stayed for just a bit. Thomas, his granddad and I had a rousing game of bingo. I was the spinner and was supposed to play, but I couldn't do both (feeble brain power I guess .) It dragged on for awhile and dd wanted to get going so she and Jack started feeding me #'s off T's card so he could win! We are bad parents/grandparents! He says he has a surprise for me so I think he is probably going to read to me.
I bought a couple tickets to the Memphis Redbirds game yesterday to see the Iowa Cubs play here in May. Boy, it would be fun if we could ever get there and hook up with you and Bob, Jean. Not this year, we had to even kabosh the big vacation for a short 3 day one this year to Indiana.
I talked to my ds that is coming down here and she said her dh is sick with some virus. She was getting ready to take him some beef noodle soup as he hadn't been able to keep anything down for a couple days. He is pretty much bedridden so I am sure he was pretty miserable with the vomiting and diarrhea being left to the mercy of the staff there at the nursing home. Poor thing! She said she has mixed feelings about coming down because of her dh, but she knows she has to get away for a couple days.
I am making good old fashioned meat loaf, au gratin potatoes and baked beans for dinner today. Not very slimming, but Jack hasn't had it in eons and asked for it.
I guess I better get going. I absolutely got nothing done yesterday!
Good Evening, Flowers! The weather is trying really hard to happen outside. I hope it does something big if it's going to happen. I spent most of the morning at church. The bell choir played three songs for second service, plus there were three groups of kids who got to 'perform', a baptism, the sing-a-long, a too long sermon, plus communion. This afternoon I was so very lazy! I read the papers and took a nap. I don't know why I am so tired lately, but I can sure fall asleep in the recliner without any trouble.
'Gma' -- I had to laugh about the Bingo game. It won't be long and T will figure out what is going on! We've never been to a baseball game other than when our son played in high school. There was some talk of the Cubs leaving Iowa, but I don't know if a decision has been made or maybe it was just for publicity. Meatloaf sounds good! I haven't made that for quite awhile. I did fix a roast this afternoon so that was supper instead of our usual Sunday night popcorn and milk. That is too bad about your bil being sick; I hope your sister can still come to visit you.
Guess I will figure out what I'm wearing tomorrow and head for bed. I should do another load of laundry, but it will still be there tomorrow!
Have a marvelous Monday . . . . remember that the choice is yours!
Good morning ladies! It is warm and very sticky this morning, UGH! I have work to do in the house and am stalling because frankly it is just too uncomfortable to work up that kind of sweat. I think it is funny, I qualify working into a sweat. Sweating while working out feels different to me that the house being hot and having to do chores in it.
Jean: Yeah, I figure T is going to catch on pretty darn soon that I am "padding the books" so to speak than I am going to get what for... A funny story about my big bruisin son. First off, this was THE most beautiful child you have ever seen. He had gorgeous white blond hair and all these curls across the back. He was also the most well behaved little thing you have ever seen. He never got into things he shouldn't nor ever told us a fib and would own up to something if say he was out playing and he did something he shouldn't etc. When he was 2 years old we bought him a Weebles Treehouse. If you don't know what it is, it is a Fisher Price toy that is this big plastic thing that looks like a tree with a roof on it and it had little plastic furniture for these egg shaped people to sit in and whatever. This version of the treehouse had a little door built into the side of the tree where a Weeble could "hide." My warped dh used to play for hours with Jay having him look in the door to see that the Weeble was hiding, then having him cover his eyes and then look and the Weeble had "disappeared." He would then do the reverse to bring it back. That little boy trusted his daddy so much, I bet he was 5 or 6 before he figured out his dad was bamboozling him. We now are looking for the exact treehouse and Weebles on Ebay to get for he and Alicia when they have their first baby, but we haven't found one yet.
Poor Jack had to go into work at 8:30 last night. Some blower had stopped working. Jack says it was the motor and it has to be sent out to be fixed so he got 4 hours of overtime for one hour of telling them it couldn't be fixed. It always scares the behooties out of me for him to go out there at night. Think about driving out into some national park in the dark with NO park rangers around or phones or buildings or whatever and that is what it is like out there. Thank God for cell phones as that at least gives me a little piece of mind.
I need to go and get the day started as it is NOT going to get cooler today.
Faye added entry a few minutes after this post:WOOHOO, THE TALK ABOUT THE WEEBLES TREEHOUSE MADE ME THINK AND ON A WHIM WENT TO EBAY WHEN I POSTED HERE. THEY HAD ONE AND I AM THE ONLY BIDDER SO FAR. IT IS USED BUT TOTALLY COMPLETE SO I HOPE I GET THE BID!
