Ok, I know water is good and the best thing to drink. I also drink Iced green tea no sugar. But both give me indigestion, which is not to bad, I can take alki seltzer or something for that, But When I drink them expecially the tea but water too I get more thirsty, cotten mouth like. Pop was the only thing that really quenched my thirst before, now no more pop Has anyone eles experenced that before and what can I do? Does it get better, I hope?
Tonight I tried fish for the first time and liked it. I never thought I would ever eat fish. Never say never right. Well this has been a great experance for me already and I just started less than a week so far. This site is awsome!! ladys.
That's a bit strange, because water and tea have never given me a flare-up of acid reflux. Pop always did it for me. I guess we are all different. I'll tell you something though. I had SEVERE acid reflux 100 pounds ago, and it's gotten 95% better since losing the extra weight, and most people find weight loss quite helpful in controlling indigestion. The only thing that gives me indigestion now is fresh spinach. So it definitely should get better, especially if you have cut out greasy foods. If you don't already know about, I take Cimetidine, which is the name for Tagamet, and that's always helped. I find the generic form at the dollar store and it costs only $2.00 for 20 pills, WAY less than Tagamet.
Have you tried drinking diet pop? I drink 3 or 4 cans a day, and it never hindered my weight loss, though it does have that affect on some people, because it kicks in sugar cravings. I drink Coke Zero, diet Shasta cola, and Rasberry diet rite.
I've heard before (I'm no expert, mind you) that when we don't drink enough..our thirst mechanism doesn't function as well as it should. When we start to give our bodies the water they need..we suddenly start to feel thristy more often.
Maybe your body just needs a little time to adjust to the intake?
Perhaps your mouth liked the fizzy sensation of the pop and that's what you're missing? I'm no expert, but I was just trying to think of what the difference was between water/tea and pop. It's the carbonation.
Maybe you could try a fizzy water? I don't think those have calories or sugars and they *may* (depending on your weight management plan) be ok to substitute for plain water. Some plans don't allow them, so keep that in mind.
Fizzy waters come in all different flavors, too, like lime, lemon, raspberry... if your plan supports them, that may be the best of both worlds for you!
I don't know anything on the water front... teehee... but on that subject of indigestion, have you tried having almonds? I find they are a good source of those good fats plus they take away indigestion faster! Just thought I'd pass that along since its helped me
I've suffered terribly over the years with digestive problems, but never brought on by water. Tea can sometimes give me mild heartburn if I drink it too strong (a weakness of mine). I think it's the tannin that does it. Green tea is a bit better than black tea for me, but both can bring it on.
I can't say enough about Aquafina, H2O, and Propel flavored water! They completely reformed this anti-water gal! If you go with the propel though, try to limit it - it does have cal, sugar, etc. - very good for working out. The other 2 are a miracle - nothing to 'em!
I know since I moved to Korea I have been a camel. I love water! I used to drink a lot of soda but have found that recently I can not drink it like I used to because the carbonation gives me....gas. (sorry for being crass) I have also found my teeth to be a lot healthier as well.
You can not drink the water here in Seoul out of the tap so I have one of those bottle machines. I love it! I go through 1 and 1/2 5 gallon bottles in a matter of two weeks.
My only vice for drinking is the double mug of coffee in the morning. I have to have a kick start when I get up at 5:30 AM and I like it so strong it climbs into the cup for me.
It may be you're drinking too much water at a time, too. If I chug one of my 32oz tumblers of water all at once, I sometimes feel a little queasy for a short while. Try sipping the water throughout your day if you're gulping down big quantities of it.
The best thing I have found lately is Nestle Naturally Fruit Flavoured water beverage. It has zero calores and I find it has replaced my craving for pop. If you find it difficult giving up the pop, I highly recommend this as a replacement.
I completely agree with the "if you start drinking more you will find yourself thirstier" theory. I obviously wasn't drinking enough for a long time. When I seriously started drinking more water (and I'm not talking gallons -- I have a 20 oz water bottle that I drink one and a half to two during work, at most), I all of a sudden started noticing THIRST more often. Because of my long commute, I have to pace my water drinking after 2 pm, because I know I need to get most of it out of me before I head home at 4. I'm usually thirsty by 4, and can feel that thirst. The first drink of water after I get home tastes SO good!
ok ladys, but I thought we were suppose to drink LOTS of water, I didnt know there could be to much? Will that feeling go away? I think it will, it is already getting a little better. The tea still does it. But now I have to pee ALOT. like every 1/2 hour. before I could go like 3 hrs. I obviosly was not getting enough to drink before. Thank you. Good luck.
Picture your body like a dried out sponge....when you first try to wet it, the water just runs off. When you haven't had enough water for a long time, the water runs right through and you have to pee every half hour. As you become rehydrated, that will go away. I now drink 64 oz of water in a day and don't have to pee anymore than I did when I was only drinking 1 can of soda each day. It does get better!
If the water is giving you acid reflux, I agree with Gardenwife. You may well be drinking too much at once.
The stomach is connected to the mouth via a tube (the esophagus), right? What most people don't realize is that there's no "flap" when it gets to the stomach. The esophageal sphincter narrows the tube, so to speak, but when the stomach gets full things can come right back up the tube. That's why you get that burning feeling--acid from your stomach, which is lined and protected and can handle the acid, washes back up into the unlined sphincter. If you're filling up your stomach with water, then that acid is going to wash right back up.
Solution: keep drinking your water, but sip it as the day passes. Don't try to drink a liter at a time, or drink a lot of water with a meal. Just keep sipping, give your body a chance to absorb the water, and sip some more.
And yes, you'll get used to it. It will reach a point where it doesn't just go straight through you.
